Why wasn't the movie Balto more popular? Well, it took me about 10 years just to finally see Balto 1. It seems almost on one know who this Heroic Dog is! Not The movie nor the REAL BALTO! Why don't people know the movie more? It came out in the movie theaters and still hardly anyone knows about it and the only ones that do just say, 'oh, the wolf?' I just don't get it, it was a terrific movie!

That is completely a matter of opinion. It was a cute movie, but that's about as far as I'd go anymore.

And I believe this movie came out around the same time when Toy Story did, which was a very poor decision. Likely that had something to do with the fact it isn't hugely popular. All though the fact that the movie isn't very popular is the reason it's useless for fans to beg Universal to give them more crappy sequels.

I think a topic like this already exists... but seriously, I think it's fairly popular. Especially online.

And this. I always hear about WQ and WoC on Cartoon Network or where ever, but do they ever play the original and actual GOOD film out of the three? Not that I'm aware of.

In 1995, when the movie BALTO came out, the movie Toy Story also had come out on the same weekend and it completely foreshadowed the movie. More and more people came to see a movie about living toys than to see the "heroic Wolf-dog" in the end the movie only got 11,000,000 bucks. That's very small compared to what Toy Story got!

Reviews on Balto were mixed, mostly Luke-warm. Roger Ebert from the Chicago-Sun Times gave it 3 out of 4 stars. The flim just didn't find it's audience. But it is known as a "Sleeper Hit" when the movie doesn't get famous when it comes out. Over time the film would get really famous like "It's a Wonderful Life", Reign Of Fire", "Monster Squad" and so on. These movies were called "flops" when they came out in theaters and did grow so much fame when they were in. But over time the became loved and then classics. Sometimes Movies take a little while to get on there feet.
That's what Balto is doing now; gaining fame.

I think because the movie is really old and less and less people talk about it.

That depends on where you've gotten thin information like at home, Balto will never just fade-away.

People dont know Balto exists due to the popularity of Shrek, Ice Age, and Toy Story over the last decade. If we spread the word we may be able to interest more people or at least make them aware.

I think it's rather pointless to go around annoying people to watch a movie. It just makes you look foolish, and not to mention it won't solve a thing.

Don't get me wrong, I like Balto, but I'm not like "OMG! I must go and annoy people about this movie because it isn't popular."

Anyway, it's reality, not every movie on this earth is going to be popular. Balto just happened to be one of them. That doesn't bother me at all. Why should it matter if it's popular or not? What matters is if you like it. And actually, I'd personally would rather have Balto be a unknown movie. It makes you stand out in the crowd from popular movies such as Rio, Twilight, etc.

i had exactly the same question and i think it was because toy story came out the same year even though balto is a beautiful animated story about mans real best friend saving mans life even so people still get me a bit annoyed when they're talking about toy story and when i ask them if they've seen balto and they don't know what i'm talking about :(

I didn't see the Balto movie until 1999 or 2000, I believe, when it finally came out on cable TV. Even though it did poorly in the box office, it is considered a "cult classic"

I remember the advertisements when the film came out in 1995 and I was not interested at the time (How I regret that). I think it suffered from a lack of marketing/promotion as well as competition from Pixar and Disney.

Strangely enough ADGTH is also considered a "cult classic".

Of course Balto is somewhat a "Cult-Classic". It's just not widely known . Not much budget means not much fame (this is generally true for animated films).

But Balto is ALOT better than Toy Story. (in my opinion)
