Touching Spirit Bear is the saddest book I have ever read. Here, I'll type the summary straight off the back of the book...

At fifteen, Cole Matthews has been fighting and stealing for years/ The punishment for smashing Peter Driscal's skull into the side-walk-his most recent crime, is harsh. This time, Cole will have to choose between prison and Native American Circle Justice. he will live either behind bars or in isolation for one year. Cole chooses Circle Justice. But in the first days of his banishment to a remote Alaskan island, he is mauled by a mysterious white bear and nearly dies. Will the attack of the spirit bear destroy Cole's life or save his soul?

So basically his farther abused him and his mother NEVER tryed to stop him and he was teased when he was young. He had a hard life...and this is not based on a true story....

OH BOY, what a book! I read this book for shool in 8th grade.

I love this book not just for it's great story, but also for the mix feeling.

It has a servival (sp?) story feeling mixed with the urban crime story feeling.

(yes, sounds odd the way I say it)

Well the plot doesnt seem very special to me though. Many many many kids, are neglected and abused by their parents and made fun of by there peers. And a life of crime easily springs from these experiences.
