Animation Source Forums

Apologies if anything of the sort has been said before.
On the Rant board, quite a few people mentioned how Sources that weren't worth the time and space making, due to their lack of fans. So I thought, when a Source is proposed, people could vote on whether or not it should be made.
What do you think?

XD, the irony here is, I sort of started getting people to do that, at least with My Little Pony Source in their replies on the suggestion topic. So far, everyone who's replied has thought it is a good idea, and I honestly think so too.

But before more are introduced, I honestly think the ones which are barely used need to be removed or something :/

That is what I got the idea from xD But if it became official it would be easier for people proposing sources


I'm not sure about that one, lots of effort go into the sources, but on the other hand it's a waste of space really

THIS! Completely! It's a shame because lots of effort goes into these sources and the only one that isn't completely dead is Balto Source.

Actually what really is the problem is that It's not the outside source but the inside source who wants more sources. Those who are already active on BS are just gonna move onto other sources. but when they realize how dead it is they just return back further weakening the new source.. What happened to Princess and the Frog Source It Died.. entirely. The real thing is that there isn't really a need for this many sources.. to be honest.. even if the movie is Supposed to be very popular.. it won't get the attention.. as always.

I'm against this. The reason is that we would always be doing what's more popular, and that goes completly against the philosophy of Animation Source, which is to make people discover good films and series they would have never found otherwise; and to offer a chance for the fans of them to have a place to discuss them/share art/etc, even if they're a small community!

OF COURSE this is biased, by my opinion mainly; and I've never hid it. I haven't spent years of programming and site management, including paying for the server, for promoting things I hate. (would you?) I'm already doing some efforts to slightly allow sites for things I'm not a fan of. But I don't see why we should do sources for films/series that already have large/active fansites. (TLKS is an exception, but was created before AS)

I have some ideas on how to get the sites more active globally, ever since I created Animation Source. The sites need to be better blended together. Currently no one check the lesser popular sites, because no one is aware when something's new is posted on them (so it becomes a vicious circle) The newsletters are already one part of the answer, and so far it works a bit! So far, Balto Source has moved from a 80% share of visitors last year, to 35% now (!!!) while still keeping the same number of visitors on BS. That means more people come on the other sites! (more than you realize)

Oooooh yesyesyesyes 8D Tangled source would be a fantastic idea! I know for a fact it's an incredibly popular film which already has a tone of fanworks on DA for it, and I'd be able to get fellow Tangled fans off DA to join also as I'm friends with many fans on there :3

I've always thought a better idea would be to add sections on the AS main site so people can submit their works on there and select the appropriate movie/series from a drop-down menu.
If a certain movie gets a LOT of content submitted, it'd be worth adding it as an entire source.

You still don't need to add all the super popular films, it can stay ONLY old or unpopular movies and others wouldn't get a section but it means space isn't wasted on Sources that are dead.
I know the vision is to have lots of Sources that are all active but honestly it's just not working, anyone can see that. People like the old movies and like seeing them get their own Source but beyond very few sporadic things submitted they're left to be inactive.
It'd give the Hub more of a purpose too because hardly anyone visits it unless someone makes a News post on it.
