I don't think there's a topic for this already.

This may not be a mistake but I find it kind of interesting. One person on TIB pointed out that in B3 the mail service says U.S. Mail. Alaska was not admitted to the union until the late 50's. Maybe a blooper? :P
Or it could be the writers just wanted to keep it simple since it's a kids movie or that maybe since it was a territory of the U.S. they could use the same mail system. Either way I think it's kind of interesting. :P

I bet it was that someone forgot because I dont think that would be something they would pay alot of attention to.

Yeah, kinda wierd isn't it?

Hm....and I wonder who wrote that topic too? :P

Anyways, the US states did deliver some of their mail to the larger towns in the Alaskan Territory, but very few (if any) came directly from the US Bureau of Mail, which in the time was the only bags "supposedly" to be officially labeled "US Mail". These were the more important documents and parcels (regular mail to AK Territory usually came in a different bag other than a mail bag).

Thanks for the info Alaskas Jenna,

I never really considered this subject, as Alaska was at the time a U.S. territory. But with the info you provided, I can only assume the writers just wanted to keep it simple. Some research had to have gone into the making of the movie, but I'm not sure just how accurate it is in terms of the mail service, and when planes started to replace sled dogs.

I believe I have read up on this somewhere, and I think it was sometime around 1941, right as World War II was beginning. Alaska had some importance that I'm not too sure on either (I think it was a checkpoint station for fleets of U.S. planes that radioed in information from Europe at the time)

Wow. I knew that Alaska wasn't officially a US state, but that was a good point (possible blooper?).

Maybe Kodi's whole thing about delivering the mail had something to do with patriotism also? (but if Alaska wasn't a state yet, maybe he just liked delivering things to people then?)

Ah-HA!

It's not a blooper; Alaska did have the US Mail Service long before it officially became a state.

(info from the site, "Alaska's Winter Mails")

"Alaska received its first U.S. Post Office in 1867 at Sitka, . . . "

And to think that mail delivery by dog sled lasted until 1963! Isn't that something?

That had been bugging me ever since I rewatched WoC when I was capping it. So I decided to look it up. It took about an hour to finally find proof that it wasn't a blooper. It seems the writers did a little bit of research on the subject.
