Just a little note: I wrote this review real fast so it might not make much sense in some places. Also, in various areas, there are spoilers so I suggest you just read the review with caution other then fill the whole thing with jumbles of spoiler warnings.

I think I’m one of the few people on Balto Source who actually loved this movie. It had a perfect Sequel plot. No “Oh, no! Another epidemic! Call in Bawlbo!” – it actually left off where the first movie ended.

First, Balto had puppies! The number of puppies, six, which most people think is unrealistic, is often common in hybrid litters (the typical hybrid litter is 6-10 puppies at once). And by having one of them, Aleu, look like her father instead of Jenna, it let people begin to wonder about Balto’s wolf side.

I loved this movie for multiple reasons; and one of them was how the film explained the wolf side of Balto instead of him desperately wanting to become a sled dog, which he achieved in the end of the first movie. They even gave his mommy a name!

When Aleu ran away, Balto went out to find her and when they met the wolf pack, he got to learn from Nava, Niju, and the rest of the pack what it means to be a wolf and have wolf blood. When he discovered that it wasn’t him who was to lead the pack, but Aleu, she had finally found her place in the world instead of having to live with her father on the outskirts of Nome. I liked getting to learn about Balto’s heritage and learn that the ghostly white wolf was his mother at the end.

Other things I liked;

• Aleu was voiced by Lacy Chabert! And the voice actor fit the character perfectly!

• Nava and his spiritual grandfatherness was a good character personality for the leader of the pack.

• They had several unexpected protagonists and antagonists which kept the movie alive as it progressed.

• It was very spiritual with Maru, Nava, Aniu, and the dreams Balto kept having gave it a Native American twist.

• OH – the HUMOR! The humor, not severe-every-scene-has-an-inside-joke, type of deal but enough to make the movie funny but still serious.

A LOT of people will go on and on and on about how many bloopers there were and how terrible the animation was and blah, blah, blah. But as a child, I watched this movie on Cartoon Network ALL THE TIME and I never, not ever, cared if the animation was bad or if there were bloopers here and there. To be honest – I never even noticed the negative things about the movie and even if I watch it today, I won’t be able to see them because I would be too caught up in the movie.

I give this movie a 9/10 – but only because I’m not a huge fan of musicals inside movies ;)
