I've gotten really in to drawing lions recently, but I'm no expert on any kind of feline anatomy. I've drawn a few lions and I'd like to know what may be off before drawing them a certain way becomes a habit.

Here's my most recent full body lioness picture.

Image

One part I had trouble with was the length of the back, I originally drew it too short (at least in my opinion) so I lengthened it and I'd like to know if it looks okay because I'm still not sure.

If you see anything else that really looks wrong, please tell me. Basically I'm requesting a critique ^-^

I'm no expert at drawing felines, and I must say that your efforts far exceed mine. ;)

It may be just me, I dunno, but the back seems a bit too thin. Maybe try raising it a bit, or making it slope upwards slightly near the hindquarters?

Thank you, I see your point. I didn't notice that before, I'll have to keep that in mine next time I draw a lion. Thanks for the help ^-^

Any more?

It's very good for a start! Agrees on Windancer's point. And I can tell you usually draw canines. Lion ears are more rounded. ;]

Yeah, I'm somewhere in the middle with ears. My problem is that whenever I draw the ears all rounded like they should be, I always think they look too mousey so I change them and they end up like this. I'll keep working with the ears though, thank you! :)

Hehe, I have the same problem myself. I'm still relatively new to drawing cats.
One of these days I'm just gonna sit down with a large piece of paper and draw a hundred tiger ears. 8]
Ya welcomes

Looks great so far 8D Especially as you normally draw canines, I see some people give them really long muzzles xc

I'm no expert, but here are some pointers:
-As others have said, the ears should be rounder.
-Lions' back have a slight curve in them.
-Legs are slightly shorter and 'thicker'
- They also tend to be slightly more 'rotund' and, as most cats, they have a kinda 'saggy' bit of belly usually from
the end of the ribs up to where the body ends.

Here is a picture of a lioness next to your drawing so you can see what I mean ;3

Ah, thank you that helps a lot! <3
I also see that I need to work on th neck structure, it looks off in my picture. I can't believe I never thought about the belly thing, I'll see about getting that to look right in my style because I do want correct anatomy, just with a cartooney style. Yes, the back makes sense now, I see the dip.
Again, thank you for the help!

Here's a new one that I sketched up of Nala the other day. I was focused on the back, belly, and legs. Any better?

Much better, using pictures of lions to help you draw is okay :P Helps a great deal on everything when you draw.
