I thought I should finally make a discussion topic for once and I thought I'd use to discuss what I find one of the most interesting (and seemingly most controversial) element of the series. What do you think about the use of elements from the Jungle Book in the show?
The tendacy to use established characters and concepts in a new show is uncommon so as to give their idea some familiarity with the audience (Disney actually did it a fair amount of times, Rescue Rangers, Figaro in the classic shorts, Mickey in the Sorcerer's Apprentice (which was going to be Dopey from Snow White in early development)). So for this case, do you think using the likes of Baloo and Louie helped make it more approachable? Would you have watched the show either way without it? Could it have used less or more of it? Does it have effect on how you view the Jungle Book film after watching the show?
This is sadly a debate I can't share much with since I actually got exposed to Talespin before I knew about the Jungle Book (which was given a theatrical rerelease shortly afterwards). It did make watching the film a bit of an oddity however, seeing cartoon characters 'deanthroed' is admitedly more jarring than vise versa.
