I might get an interview an interview soon with Tom Ruegger creator of these fine shows but just in case let's have some fun and discuss these show to a greater extent.

My favorite was Road Rovers and I like the idea even though it was cancelled midway through the first season.

From Frank Welker, voice of Shag and Muzzle:

Do you mind if we talk about an underrated program called, "Road Rovers?" I mean you, Jess Harnell (Hunter), Tress MacNeille (Colleen), Kevin Michael Richardson (Exile), Jeff Bennett (Blitz); each one as great as the person besides them.

Another good subject. We all loved doing that show and none of us know why it was pulled. That would be one for the studio to answer, but we all really did have fun with it.

2. What was it like voicing the characters Shag and Muzzle?

Forgive me, but I don't recall now exactly what I did but they were fun.

*I could not get Jess Harnell but I am working on Kevin Michael Richardson so hang on Road Rovers fans. :alien:

What was your favorite WB show out of these four and what is your favorite memory?

Later,

Nikkifan1

Here is a quick question for Kevin Michael Richardson voice of Exile from Road Rovers.

What was it like playing Exile on Road Rovers?

Loved paying Exile, John! It was a lot of fun.

Alright! I've chatted with Exile's voice, got a poster from Hunter's voice, and chatted with Shag & Muzzle voice. Road Rovers fandom, YAY!!!

Here is series creator, Tom Ruegger, explanation of how Road Rovers came to be.

1. The idea for Road Rovers

Kids WB had a time slot opening. Jean MacCurdy -- president of Warner Bros. Television Animation -- saw the wisdom in grooming a project in-house. Then, if it hit, WB could own it outright and benefit from it. She came to me and asked if I had any ideas for the time slot. She encouraged me to tap into my many dog concepts. She had seen me drawing dogs for the past 20 years and knew I was into canines.

I worked with a team of people to develop a bunch of different dog concepts. Among the group were Bob Doucette, Jeff Gordon, Ron Roesche, Joey Banaskiewics and others. We developed many ideas into brief presentation pieces, often with just one or two drawings a piece.

Among the batch of ideas were dogs in super hero outfits, standing upright and looking very buff. Jeff Gordon and I developed this concept further, and Bob Doucette helped a great deal on the artwork, as did others. Jeff Gordon and I were credited with creating the concept.

I pitched the idea to Jean MacCurdy, who liked it a lot. Jean and I then pitched it to Jamie Kelner, who gave it the green light to series.

Only then did we really focus on the characters and concept, and the details of it all fell into place: that the Road Rovers were presidential pets who came together and who joined forces -- and showed off their canine super powers -- to defeat international villains.

Bob Doucette was chosen to produce the series. Mark Seidenberg served as story editor. I supervised the whole thing.

The main title song is one of my favorites, and one of the favorite main titles that I wrote: "Barking scratching Frisbee-catching Presidential pets..."

3. What do I like better...simple praise or awards
Awards are great and they glitter for a night or a few weeks or for a few months. I love having the Emmy trophies, but the glitter tends to fade.
Long term appreciation for one's work is very enriching.
Having people, fans, who continue to like my work is very very rewarding.

Anyone else here a Road Rovers fan?

Cool interview. I remember watching Road Rovers when I was a kid, but I think it were in the form of reruns.

I'm gonna start watching the series again soon.

BTW, I luv Tom Reugger

It was cancelled because of the low ratings and Kids WB could afford to cancel the show without angering fans. That was straight from Tom Ruegger's mouth.

That's too bad it only lasted one season. I wish they continue airing newer episodes.

Of these four, Road Rovers would be my unchallenged favorite, followed by either Animaniacs or Freakzoid. Freakazoid didn't have quite as much of a tendency toward questionable humor, but Animaniacs' takeoffs on classical culture, like the Great Wakkorotti or their "translations" of Shakespeare were tough to beat. And their edu-vids were fun too (one of these days I will learn to sing Yakko's "Nations of the World"). Tiny Toons was fun, but it never really captures my interest.
