I doubt this would really happen with Tangled's stronger than expected box office and with Princess and the frog coming out shortly after Home on the Range being supposedly the "last one".. so take with a grain of salt..

I hope they stop after this. O_o I really don't like fairytales.

I'm sad that this era in Disney movies could be ending soon. At least the snow queen is still going to be made so I'll have to enjoy that while it lasts. I just hope that Disney doesn't go too modern with their movies and do nothing but CGI(I think it's ugly compared to hand-drawn) and only do "modern" movies.

It's not suprising, really. I just hope Disney doesn't epically suck after they start doing new stuff. =\ Though I'm not sure how low I'm going to keep my hopes for that lol.

I found out Tangled almost beat the new Harry Potter movie so that gave me a good laugh, but what other fairy tale could they do? Seems like Disney pulled out everyone in the book now.

Well it doesn't help when they only pick princess-themed fairytale movies to make!
(Yep, Rapunzel counts as one, she's joining the stupid Princess brand line despite the extreme measures taken for promotion so it doesn't look like another girly princess movie (wth?))

It'd be awesome if Disney actually pushed new ideas within fairytale genre instead of princess this, princess that. I am disappoint in this attempt to 'modernise' the whole princess thing because they're just giving an old toy a new paint job (or something like that). Silly!

Personally I think what happened with "Tangled" was interesting. The concept sounds like typical Disney "straight to video" mentality. They ran out of ideas, some doofus in a suit suggested that they remake Rapunzel with a hip new twist for the kids just as another way to make money, not to make a good movie, and it was wildly applauded by all the clueless executives at Disney.

What they didn't count on was that Disney's acquisition of Pixar, and Pixar's John Lasseter's promotion to the head of Disney Animation would actually inject some serious quality into the movie. Most people who know anything about Pixar knows that Pixar does not screw around. They only make good movies, no exceptions. Even their worst movie is still better than the best movies from most other studios.

Most of the Disney remakes, sequels and straight to video releases have been pretty bad over the last 10-20 years. Very few of them have even been worth watching IMO. But with John Lasseter in charge, that's all different now. Tangled is apparently fantastic (I haven't seen it yet, just going by reviews), and that's a good indication as to what we can expect from Disney from now on.

And it's about time. Even if they don't do fairy tale movies any more, it's really not going to matter - whatever they do will be good. Just like Pixar movies. Remember when Cars was first announced? People thought Pixar was crazy, you can't make a movie about talking cars. Anyway, I am now officially looking forward to Disney animated movies again, for the first time in a long time.

My two bits...

I think this would be a great move. Disney's been doing fairy tales more than a few times, as opposed to taking say - Oliver Twist (Oliver and Company), Great Mouse Detective (Basil of Baker Street) - into pretty interesting territories, in some cases usually leaving them without the kind of recognition Princess films might get. Aristocats probably fits here too.

It would be a great benefit for them to churn out something on their own merit, without basing it on an original source. Not that I've had much problem with their takes on other known forms of literature. Robin Hood was pretty decent, and Sleeping Beauty.
