Frankly, I think the title of your topic belies "neutrality", and it is inappropriate using part of my member name. It is NOT a "Jersey Situation". You should have worded that differently.
And if you are talking about ME being given a stern warning about "never raising the topic again" (especially when I tried more times than I could count to stop it, using private e-mails and PMs to steet and to admins...to very little avail), that obligation and the consequences thereof should fall on EVERYONE. Or else it is one-sided grandstanding and prejudice. Pinning that on one person is ridiculous.
I think what is best needed right now is for people to actually stop talking about this. And I do not believe it would serve this site, or the members who had nothing to do with this (or have anything to do with other conflicts which do or don't involve either party or the supporters on either side) to see the site shut down over it.
A solution is simple:
1. The rules are enforced consistently, without exception, without favoritism.
2. When a conflict occurs, no fence-sitting or spreading around of the blame, by staffers, is to be tolerated. The actual party or parties are held responsible. And a fair and BALANCED resolution is reached, rather than the kind of one-sided and irresponsible actions which took place in the conflict which came about recently.
3. A set of updated rules are put in place by steet (and ONLY by steet), and are enforced by him (and ONLY him), which means he must take a more proactive role, as much as that may not be an enjoyable prospect to him. It's his site...and like on any site, the webmaster has an obligation to respond to things when they get as serious as this last conflict did, and treat all sides with fairness and IMPARTIALITY, and judge accordingly. That is even what so many resources on this site make evident when a conflict occurs...or help is needed. To contact the webmaster. I tried to do that repeatedly even in the early stages of the aforementioned conflict. Had he taken a more proactive role, it probably would not have gotten as far as it did. And yes, I acknowledge how busy he is. But you know what? We're ALL busy. Including those of us who are site webmasters (including webmasters of forums of various sizes). It doesn't change the overriding obligation of a webmaster to be proactive no matter how jaded he or she may become with the members thereof. (NOTE: AND THIS IS NOT, NOT, NOT A FLAME AGAINST STEET!)
Anything else is unnecessary and does a disservice to this site and its membership.
