Despite all the bogus said on TV and in Consumer Reports, I do not believe Dodge is a bad make. In fact, I think they are a good representative of this country. Excluding Chrysler, Jeep and Fiat out of this, what would your overall impression of Dodge be? Here are two facts that may affect your decision:
The 2010 Dodge Ram was awarded Motor Trends Truck of the Year (take that Tacoma and Frontier!)
The Dodge Avenger received a "Good" rating by the IIHS/HIDI. The Dodge Caliber received the same result for frontal offset crash tests, but ranked "Acceptable" for side tests. The Charger received same results as the Avenger both frontal and side.

NewYorkBaltoFan wrote: Except for the high end cars that most people can't afford anyway... the Challenger and Viper, I think that Dodge is a clueless company that makes awful cars. And I feel that I'm qualified to say this because I own one.
My car is a 2005 Dodge Neon. The car looks great (Red, not a scratch on it), but it has a lot of problems. First of all, water always leaks out of the fan housing, but after checking all of the weather stripping on the car I realized that it wasn't a problem with that, it was simply a design flaw. And upon further inspection I realized that the car probably always did this the dealer had put air fresheners down inside the vents to cover it up. After reading about it and talking to other Chrysler owners, I found out that this happens in MOST Chrysler vehicles.
Also, it rides like crap. Even with only 56,000 miles on it when I bought it, it ran rougher than a comparable GM, Honda or Toyota car. And for a car with such a low profile, the turning radius is horrific. It's way worse than a Cavalier, old Neon or even my girlfriend's piece of crap Suzuki Forenza.
That being said, I still SORT OF like the car because it gets 40MPG on the highway. But as gas prices rose, Chrysler decided to cut the Neon from it's lineup and replace it with the Caliber which is a car that's not even in it's class (It's a crossover, not an economy car and the gas mileage is awful) and remove economy cars from their lineup completely. Since 2006, Dodge has not offered a fuel efficient car when it's all anybody wanted.
The avenger is hideous and gets 21/30 which is nothing special.
The Caliber get's 31 highway which is impressive for a car that size but it's ugly, handles poorly and SCREAMS when driving on a concrete Highway.
And that's it, those are the only cars that get a reasonable MPG (and by reasonable I mean horrible compared to anything any other company makes)... even though it's all ANYONE wants right now. They're also responsible for the new Charger and the Magnum which are 2 of the ugliest cars ever conceived (although they're not quite the Pontiac Aztek).
The Viper and Challenger are amazing looking, extremely powerful and overall awesome cars and I won't pretend that they're not, but most people can't afford them. For those people (most of us), nothing in Dodge's current lineup appeals to me even slightly. Wow, thats a lot of negatives you got. Just because it doesnt ride like a Cobalt or Altima doesnt make it a bad car. The Neon, with some Plymouth blood in it, I must say was a blunder. Remember the "Toyotas Unsafe?" topic? At least Dodge does not make vehicles with a bunch of mischievious mechanical parts in them. And you cannot argue with that. Also consider the transmission when it comes to a "rough ride". This can be caused especially in manual transmissions. Dodges design is much more pretty than Toyota. The Sienna looks like a Lincoln and the Prius is just trash in cosmetics. Please people Im looking for fellow enthusiasts here. And for outside noise, every car has that somewhat.

Dodge makes a number of nice vehicles, but if you want to tap into their more quality vein, you unfortunately, have to go with their higher end automobiles. I've driven a number of Dodges (almost all of them produced from 1987 to current day) and I have to say that my favorites were the Dodge Ram Heavy Duty, with the Cummins, the late 90s Dakota 5.9 Sport, the Charger SRT8 and the Viper GTS. Other then those...I was unable to find anything that performance (and quality) wise, distinguish them from anything their competition offers.
The I cars drove of theirs I disliked the most was the Neon, since it was small, and felt too rattly. In it's defense though, if it weren't for it's bug eye styling, I would choose the Neon three to one against the Toyota Corolla. The Challenger was one too...it looked, and sounded fantastic, and had great fit and finish, but it's steering and handling is so far behind it's Pony Car rival the Mustang, that I was extremely disappointed. For the same price, you can get a Roush Mustang, or a Saleen S281, and have a faster, much livelier driving car.
I like Dodge a little bit, since they're one of the Big Three, but they need to kick it up a little bit, and catch up to Ford and GM, who're closer in numbers to their foreign competitors. I'm still gonna stick with Nissan/Infiniti and Ford though. Lol

I remember watching the TV series Viper as a kid just because I was such a fan of the car, even though it wasn't the most kid-friendly show on TV. Did I care? NO!! I wouldn't have cared if the series got the TV-MA rating. I still would've watched it because I was, and still am, such a huge fan of the car. Back then, of course, the TV content ratings system did not yet exist. I'm still a fan of both the car and the show and would love to have a real one myself someday. Its good to hear that theres someone out there who isnt lecturing Dodge. Kudos to you Wolf-Bassist

You don't like to read other's posts, do you, Baltoluv?
It really appears to me, that unless they say nothing bad about Dodge, you ignore them until they call you on it. Honestly, I'd call myself a true car enthusiast, there are cars from brands I dislike that I love (Toyota Supra for example), and cars from brands I love that I dislike (The American Ford Escorts)...If you'll notice, I only listed off a few vehicles I enjoyed from them.

Not true. I read all posts made to my topics, whether negative nor positive the response should be towards Dodge. I just hate it when people criticize just to critcize. I tend to respond to more positive responses because I want to avoid arguments and false accusations.

Personally I'm not the biggest Dodge fan, most like because I'm a Chevy guy. I drive an 02 Malibu and love it. It has over 125k miles and never an issue besides some rust and a smashed in bumper... well that's my fault.
For cars I know Dodge doesn't have the greatest reputation, I mean the 1999 Dodge Intrepid was voted the as the worst car ever, now that's saying something about the company. I probably will never buy a Dodge, not because of that reason, I just think other car manufacturers out there are so much better than Dodge. I would rather get a Dodge than an Asian car, I hate Asian cars... don't get me started on my hatred of them... they suck, and there is no point in arguing with me.
But overall as cars go I'd get a European car first, than probably a Chevy, then Ford, then I'd begin to look at Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep. I would get one way before I get a Saturn and stuff like that. I have more trust in a company that has been around for years and years than one that was created in the 1990s.

Just as a heads up, reliabiltys fallen in audis and mercedes benzs as well as bmws from what I hear. Just a piece of advice. Saturns dead, and Hummers following its footsteps so no need to worry about that. Yea, Asian makes (Hyundai, Toyota, Nissan) have gone too far in the extremes that theyre beginning to look bad.

NewYorkBaltoFan wrote: That makes no sense. If someone asks for your opinion of something and you have a negative opinion, then you should share that opinion. If everyone just pretended that they liked everything when they didn't, then there would be no conversation. Respectful debate is the whole point of even having a message board. Nobody here is criticizing "just to criticize". You asked for our opinion and you got it. And out of curiosity, what kinds of false accusations are you talking about? Nobody made a false accusation about Dodge. They either responded to opinion based questions or just stated their opinions on factual information (like mpg) that's listed on the Dodge web site. I understand that you never said anyone made a false accusation, just that you wanted to avoid them... but how would one ever arise just because someone didn't sugar coat something enough? I'm not trying to put you on the spot, I'm just genuinely curious. ---------------------------------------------------- And to make your stance even more confusing, here is a post that you made about Toyota after a few people argued that Toyota's problems were overblown. baltoluv wrote: Whatever. They can still be lethal. Again... from earlier in this thread... baltoluv wrote: Alpine wrote: You don't like to read other's posts, do you, Baltoluv? Not attacking you, I'm just really trying to figure out where you're coming from here. I'm lost. It seems like the only person that ignored all of the facts that were presented and then made a crazy accusation is you. Sorry if this seems like a duplicate but doing this from the Wii, itd look better quoting long messages in two different responses. In answer to your false accusations question this being like as if one member accusing some other member of a untrue attribute like being obscene or something like that, basically attacking them. I do not make things up, with all due respect. I take it from things I read, so these "facts" arent really ringing a bell.
