Stella is a good character. It is ironic how so many members of this site can't stand her - she is practically an exacting replacement for Dixie (only with a different love interest). The mannerisms are the same, the romantic drive is still the same, and the over-the-top sexiness is still the same. Even if the personalities are slightly different (Dixie is a bit of a ditzy airhead, while Stella is more of an assertive woman-type).
(Though whether or not she is superior to Kodi is highly debatable...)
I think the problem is that Boris is not really a main character (compared to Balto / Kodi / Aleu), he's there for comic relief. Nobody cares about his love interest (well at least I don't, maybe I'm in the minority though).
Perhaps you're right. But it is an interesting plot device to give Boris a love interest. Maybe it's not central to the overall story, but it does make the story a little more complex. Most live action movies (and some animated ones) often include subplots...whether or not they are relevant to the overall main plot.
But Boris is there for more than just comic relief. He serves as a sounding board for Balto...a part of his "super-ego", so to speak (
