The sun was just setting as Lydia squeezed her way out of the house. Her excitement was rising as she bounced all the way to the beach. She could smell the salty air now as she caught sight of a large male. He was barely visible against the dark sky as Lydia finally reached him. The greeted each other warmly before the malamute mix pulled away.

"You ready?" She asked.

Vlad nodded and playfully licked her on the nose. "Sure I am! Catch me if you can!"

He bolted down the shoreline. Lydia stood in shock for a moment before registering what had just happened. She began to laugh as she chased after him.
The black husky darted away surprisingly fast for a housepet.
He let a laugh-like bark "You'll never catch me"

Lydia shot after him, his playful remark spurring on her competitive urge. She was gaining on him, thanks to her border collie and prized race dog bloodlines; a potent cocktail of speed and agility. A pretty useless thing for a housepet to have.

She was fast.

The blonde dog's legs pushed her forward, her heart beat faster, stronger. She was right on his heels now, his hind paws coming so very close to the tip of her nose. She reached out a little farther, attempting to nip one of his toes, though not maliciously- it was in her nature. She was, after all, part herding dog.

Vlad sensed her. Sensed she was right on him, and darted forward, just out of her reach. He turned to her, all the while still laughing "I told you babe, you won't catch me!", and he dashed farther down the shoreline.

She was annoyed.

A low growl formed in her throat and she put on a burst of speed, not noticing the small hole a small boy had dug in the sand earlier that day- Vlad had stepped over it- and the growl turned into a yelp, and the yelp into a howl when she felt the stabbing pain shoot up her right foreleg as she tumbled down into the sand.

Vlad slowed very quickly as his body half turned around. Lydia! he thought before anything left his mouth.

"Lydia..." the large black husky was fully stopped now. Then he sprinted over.

"Are you alright?" he asked, attempting to keep the frantic alarm from his voice. His deep azure eyes wide in shock.

"I...I think so." She tried getting up, but the pain shot through it again. She yelped and as if by instinct,Vladmir braced himself against her so she didn't fall back into the cold sand.

"That doesn't sound all right," he scolded.

"Yeah..." she breathed his scent in deeply. It was intoxicating. "I guess I'm not all right."

He smiled. "Well I'm thinking-"

"Don't hurt yourself now," Lydia spat, the pain searing through her leg.

Vlad ignored it. "Maybe we should go rest... maybe in the boiler room where its cozy and warm?"

Lydia noticed the we in that sentence and shivers that had nothing to do with the cold racked her body. "Sure. Sounds nice."

Vlad smirked to himself as he led the way towards the boiler room, supporting Lydia with his sholder. He proceeded to nudge open the door with his muzzle and help her inside, closing the door behind them.

"Here we are babe-" he breathed settling them both down next to the furnace.

Lydia snuggled next to the big dark male, thankful he was so forgiving. She felt terrible for snapping at him the way she did earlier. "Thank you. For taking care of me, y'know?"

"Yeah, no problem." Vlad draped his head over Lydia's and closed his eyes. "So how's your leg, doll?"

"Oh, its okay now." She placed her paws over Vlad's. "Its probably nothing more than a bad sprain."

Vlad carefully nosed at her paw and then at the one on his paw, he couldn't feel anything odd so he left it alone.

The large male moved his head so it was now resting atop Lydia's.

"You still need to get it checked out"
