I was wondering something, why did they use someone washed up like Steve Winwood. There were many better people out then, like Eddie Vader or Dave Mustane. What do you guys think? I guess they could put in much worse voices like Michael Jackson or Celine Dion.

Well, I'm not saying thatt listening to him is a bad thing, I'm just saying maybe they couldve used someone more up-to-date.

You sir are very correct, except for Eddie Vedar. He could have done it. However I dont think he was very well known at the time. Still, I think they made the right choice.

Baltoluv, your actually not listing "up-to-date" artists.
All the artists your listing as "should've used" are heavy metal singers.
All the artists your listing as "could've been worse" are actually some of the most TOP-selling artists in the world today.

Now I admire your creativity, and there"s NOTHING wrong with listening to heavy metal, but not everybody likes that kind of thing. Besides that, the producers wanted the song to fit the mood of the movie, and they had to pick a suitable voice for the song. I mean, no offense, but just picture Mustane singing "reach for the light". You may think it sounds good, I don't know, but I personally would prefer Winwood to sing instead. And yes, I've heard Mustane's singing, I don't think he has a suitable voice for the song.

I'm quoting this because I have nothing to add to it besides putting some things in my own words.

1. As said, Celine Dion and Micheal Jackson have sold out, have been famous and probably will for a while. Their songs are very well known, and incredibly popular. But one thing I can sort of get from what you said about them is that they're voices would've sounded extremely weird in Balto, and I have to agree on that on Micheal Jackson's part. Celine Dion, however might have sounded pretty okay in this movie, her voice fits that kind of movie mood.

2. Those artists aren't up-to-date. I can't stress that enough, I didn't know who they were. :/

3. Heavy metalers(so people say they are) singing in Balto would be like a musician in "So You Think You Can Dance?": Totally out of place. It doesn't fit the movie, Steven Winwood did, and he did amazingly in that movie.

I think they made a good choice in the singer.

1. Heavy metalists wouldn't be right for the mood.
2. Winwood has a great voice anyways!
3. He was most likely inside the price budget they had for the movie.

and 4. What is the matter with your brain?! Michael Jackson or Celine Dion wouldn't have been worse! They are two of the top-selling artists, and those people you said would have been "better" are names I've never heard of.

Up-to-date? Wt* is wrong with you?

OK, they were more up-to-date then. Nowadays since Jacksons dead and Celine isnt contributing much anymore, probably Josh Todd from Buckcherry or Ben Burnley from Breaking Benjamin would do it.

Ben Burnley? 0.0 Where did you pull Ben from? His voice is dark, and it sure as heck fits the music he makes in Breaking Benjamin, but other than that, I can't see him singing reach for the light. Definitely not.

My point: Ben Burnley + piano = DISASTER.
