(When I saw this title I was thinking "Please don't call it British Petroleum, please!", luckily though, you didn't mention any of the two companies involved)
Personally, I think people are getting over-hyped about it, and very Anti-British; thanks to (Censored - Politics). I mean, there have been hundreds of oil spills all around America, maybe not as big, but have done much more damage.
Perhaps this could be a new incentive for a car that runs on water?

I've heard about this; though the cap isn't permanent. They only put it there to slow it down meanwhile. I really haven't been paying much attention to it, as I don't watch or read the news. What I do know is that they're burning out the oil right now.

Oh, I also heard once that Obama doesn't care about the oil spill. I don't know if that is true or not. Obama is more interested in slagging off the British then dealing with the oil spill. And Mighty, there using many different ways, burning is just one of them. But when they capture this oil they burn most of it, the rest they use.

I've read a little about this, but I care little about it. One company broke it, they need to fix it. Their fault, their fix.

I've heard all about the oil spill for the past few months on tv. Yes it is capped. But the cap isn't permanent and the hurricane season won't help the relief efforts to cap it. Don't say they aren't trying to cap it for those months. I can assure you they were. They have never had to deal with a catastrophe like this. It was one thing with the Exxon Valdese oil spill up in Alaska. That was a ship and had a limited amount of oil. It was not a complete oil well that had almost a seemingly infinite amount of oil in it. So don't go around saying the government of the United States of America is doing nothing.
I think the main reason it took so long to cap was the fact that we had to fight a "war" if you want to call it that on two different fronts. We had to help contain the oil in a restricted area so it wouldn't stray any further out of the Gulf of Mexico. We had the clean up efforts, done mostly by civilians on the gulf coast states of, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida. We also had the attempt to build a device to cap the leak. Which is not easy to do since we could not send down any divers to put a plug in the leak. It all had to be done robotically. And yes I know it isn't permanent but at least it's something for right now. They still are trying to find a permanent solution to the problem of the oil spill.
Another thing I am surprised nobody has mentioned yet is all the jobs effected. I'm not talking about the people of BP Amoco. I'm talking about all the fisheries that are effected. Thousands of jobs of honest American and I'm sure Mexican workers lives have been drastically changed by the spill. Their fisheries are no long healthy and good to fish. The spill has delivered a big blow to the whole ecosystem in the gulf. Which has effected the fishing industries today and many years to come.
To all who haven't figured out I am taking the side of the American government with this one. Through my eyes as an honest American I've seen them do nothing wrong. It was not the Americans fault that BP had poorly maintained it's drills. Yes the drill was another company's but who decided to use the drill and keep it maintained? It was BP. So this is not all America's fault. Part of it has to be blaimed on the fokes that work for BP over in Britain. America has done all it's could so far to keep the oil contained and cap it. And I greatly appreciate their efforts.

Operations in America are done by the BP US-HQ (in Houston), NOT in Westminster. The item that exploded was made, maintained and controlled by another American company, BP was overseeing the project, so really it's on a third their fault.

You should see how many big American companies have their hand in BP profits ;P
But yeah back to OP's point, personally I think the reason why the "nature aspect" isnt getting covered is because we've seen it all before, the American media have a choice between filming some birds covered in oil, something everyone has gotten used to and are no longer shocked by. Or they can make a story about "British" Petroleum spilling oil all over their wuvely beaches.
Yes the nature aspect is a definite concern but we all already know the dangers assosciated with oil spills on the natural environment, its happened so many times now.

Being that I live right next to the Gulf of Mexico, where oil was really bad, I've heard a lot about it. Pretty much daily.
