Any of you guys want to hear other people's reviews? Or want to post yours? (Well many of you don't go on keyframe so heres a forum topic!)

If you do a review, please put a "SPOILER WARNING" if there is a need for it. Also, please be respectful of other people's opinions, please don't make a post to hate/rephrase/disagreeing another's review, it's just disrespectful. Be sure to post your review at Keyframe too! http://www.keyframeonline.com/Animation ... Pride/138/

(Keyframe review rules, which really should apply here too,
1.This review is your opinion and thus should be your own original writing.
2.Please try to limit the spoilers put into your review or at least give readers fair warning if you're about to spoil the plot.
3.Make your comments about the animation, not another person's past review. Reviews that contain personal attacks against other reviewers will be removed.
4.This is a family-oriented site. Please keep the language clean. )

My review from Keyframe= 1 star
-SPOILERS, they be in here-
Many people will/or/won't agree with me, but This movie wasn't very good. It turned bad once you see Kiara, the female-addition. Now don't get me wrong, I'm glad they had a some-what strong female character for the lead, but Disney now is making them weak. (Example, Kiara)
Her character was little progressed and I would have prefered if they kept Kopa.

Timon and Pumba are still in the movie yes, but they don't show much, and seem to just be pests in here.

The songs weren't very good in my opinion, they just didn't song well, or have too much meaning.
Simba also changed very much, while many people will say; "Oh he just got older" well in the first movie, you see him still young(er?) and has the cub at the end of the first movie. Point there, now moving on.

Nala, the mother of Kiara, is now not much screentime. She's more like the background now. Sure, they /tried/ to show some "spice" from the first movie (Nala still pinning Simba down) but seriously, why get rid of Nala for Kiara?

Kovu as a cub was OK, but once he hits the teen age I just lost all love for this guy, once he doesn't want to kill Simba, and wants to save him, get the girl, I just wanted to turn the TV off.

Not worth buying in my opinion. Already sold my copy of TLKII: Simba's pride. ;)

On a technical level this movie is mediocre. The songs sound like they were thrown together at the last minute and the only creative tunes are He Lives in You and My Lullaby. The animation is also mediocre. Though the animation was better than most DTV sequels at the time it hasn't really aged well and there are other recent DTV sequels that have better animation. Plus sometimes the animation is awkward-for example the artists decided to make some of the lionesses purple and there is a scene where Nala where she's supposed to be sitting ends up looking rather stiff.

Also the voice acting is so-so. Most of the actors do a good job-Jason Marsden turns in a poignant performance as Kovu and Neve Campbell is ok as Kiara but Matthew Broderick is still so-so as Simba. Though he was better as an overprotective father than as a guy who thought he killed his father he still had moments where he could have been better. When he tells Kovu that Scar killed his father, for example, he tells him without an iota of emotion and he overracted in the scene where he banished Kovu. Also Edward Hibbert phones in his performance as Zazu and doesn't have the same energy Rowan Atkinson has.

But the writing more than makes up for it. Now the plot isn't original-it's the same plot we've seen in Pocahontas/Ferngully/Avatar/etc.: a guy who is sent to help kill a certain group ends up finding himself falling in love with someone from the other side and ends up changing sides. However the original didn't have an original plot either-there have been many movies about guys with deep dark pasts. Take the new movie Inception for example. However like the original movie it does put a nice twist on the formula. While the 1st movie twisted the formula by actually having the guy think he killed his father the new movie puts a twist on the Pocahontas/Avatar formula by having both sides know each other plus unlike most movies of this formula it actually portrays both sides as bad. Now of course ideas are nothing without execution and though the execution could've been better it's done pretty well.

However the writing is also not without it's flaws: I would've liked to see more of Kovu's transformation from a rebellious kid to being brainwashed back to being good rather than telling us what happened. Also I feel that the introduction of Zira suffered from laughable introduction: what idiot would tell their enemy their plan? Show don't tell Disney! Also while Nala actually felt like a character in the original she felt like more of a plot device who was just there when Simba needed her. What's even worse about this is that it wastes Moira Kelly's talents though she does good with what she has.

Otherwise though it was a decent film. 7/10
