Simple question. Should the users be able to give some "marks" to the submitted fan content sent on the site?
I have always been mixed about that. On one hand, it would allow to distinguish and reward the best efforts. On the other hand, some people would automatically cheat with the system, or would give bad rates for stupid reasons.
What's your opinion?

I'd like to see a rating system for art and stories and the such. Most sites that have stories like that allow it, so why not us? It could be a simple system ranging from 0 to 5 stars, like on Youtube, and would also use DT's limit idea to prevent abuse (also prevent the creator from rating their own work to keep it truly fair)

It would be a great idea! It would give us a little advice on what we do wrong and right, as well. For instance, if we decided to use a certain colouring style in one, and it got rated really highly, then if we did another one with the same colouring style, but something else different about it, for example, using coloured lines, and that got rated quite low, then we know what we did wrong ^^

Quote: It would give us a little advice on what we do wrong and right, as well. Well that's what comments are for... Quote: Could it be limited to one vote per item per profile (each erson can only vote on something once) like polls? Of course. Quote: a simple system ranging from 0 to 5 stars, like on Youtube As far as I know, Youtube does not do that anymore? (Just "Like" or "Dislike") I still prefer a "real" rating myself.

We would only know if the picture was good or bad in general. Unless we could rate individual things, such as background, lines, colouring etc. But that would get annoying. And people may be afraid to rate someone's picture badly if their popular or their friend, even though it may not be good.

I don't know about this... Imagine someone viewing their ratings, and seeing poor ratings on their work? We would have to deal with members complaining about it. Considering all the other things they whine about, I'm going to say no.

Considering all the other things they whine about, I'm going to say no. When you put it that way, you have a point. If someone's going to say, "This is not a good picture," or "This fanfic stinks," they should have the decency to tell someone to their face (or as close as one can do on the internet) and say what's wrong with it so the person can either shrug it off if it's dumb or learn from it and do better next time. And I think there'd be more motivation to do that if expressing one's dislike at least attached one's name to it instead of just sniping from the shadows.

Good idea, but you should probably moderate it for the reasons Mighty pointed out

I think we should make it optional if we were going to do it at all. That way no-one can moan about their low ratings

I don't really see a point in this at all. The popular artists are all going to have their images rated high and such. And like you said, some members would give bad rates for no reason and such.
And people would probably be rating all the art low that they don't like.
And no one wants to see their images rated low. so I don't know.. I don't like this idea. It does not sound lie a good idea to me.

YT only has Like/Dislike now. If it does become something - have the option to toggle ratings for pieces/gallery - have the option to toggle ratings overall As long as we have a ratings system though people will find ways to cheat and abuse it. And as long as we have a ratings system we will have people complaining that its unfair they're getting low ratings. Due to our member demographic also some people will decide to be a bit silly and give bad ratings for silly reasons. Or good ratings only to their friends (which WILL happen a LOT). However, it would make art features easier to pick, and it might increase interest in the site. I personally vote no though. I think it could be a good idea, but it'd probably be a bit too troublesome to deal with right now considering we've got all the fan characters business to straighten out first.
