I was looking up some interesting predicitions of what has in store for humanity and I came across somethings that were fascinating for example:The usage of synthetic materials to replace damaged tissues in humans, mining of asteroids, floating hotels in space, etc. So what do you think the future has in store for humanity?
(Please note this is a discussion for what the future might be like in regards to new technology, etc. Please no discussions of the End of the World, or 2012 stuff)

I think computers and laptops are all going to be "app based" (the apps you see for the iPad). So instead of having MS Word, you would have the MS Word app. Apple are showing signs of the future, things like the iPad are the way forward. The old PC's will be going out.
And thankfully, so will Microsoft.

I don't think anything drastic will change, but considering how things are becoming more portable, computers will become pocket-sized. For example Netbooks are smaller versions of computers.I have one myself and I will say they are nifty little things. Cellphones are in a way like the "new" computer. I really can see them advancing into hand held computers. Cars are becoming more environmentally friendly and safe. Heh, maybe one day they will even fly. Who knows. I honestly don't know what will happen in the future. I just go with the flow.

Honestly I have know idea what the future will bring. I think eventually computers will become obsolete and you'll pretty much have just a small device that can work as a computer, phone, ipod, navigator, etc... something similar to the iphone but better. You can hook it up to a monitor of some sort and a keypad to make it easier to type. Other than that I'm sure their will be new inventions that we had no clue what they will be. Who in the 1930s would've predicted a portable device that you can call people with or a device that you can meet people living on the other side of the world? Honestly I think their will be new inventions that we will look back on and wonder how we got around without it. Like the computer or even the microwave xD. But those are just my ideas, they may be wrong or they may be right.

Interesting topic.
I have a theory about what will happen regarding society. I believe that eventually individual nations will be dissolved. Whether through necessity, incentive, or force, I think this will eventually come into place one way or another. To spur such a thing into motion, some sort of natural disaster that threatens humanity on a global scale, or a large war, will be used to encourage the unity of our species. From this, one nation would be formed that would govern the entire world. Remaining countries who refuse would be "bled" into submission. Meaning, they could not trade with anyone (because they are part of the world order), and there would be constant pressure to assimilate, perhaps even an invasion. Aspects of a world government are already in place today. Whether or not such a thing would signal the collapse of society would be unknown as of yet, but death of individual culture is probably guaranteed by such a move.
Technology wise, those above me here have already come out with a lot of ideas. Eventually, though, I'd be willing to say that we will have computers integrated into ourselves. Perhaps a nano technology hard drive being implanted in our skull, with all of the necessary computer gadgets along with it. Our vision would be the monitor, and it would be a heads-up display just as we see in First-Person Shooter games. This is probably quite far down the line, though.
Mass starvation. Medical advances are amazing things, but it has ensured that our population will grow to unsustainable numbers. First-World Countries will be fine, but the Third-World Countries will largely perish. Unless, tying this into my first idea in this post of world government, these Third-World Countries assimilate with the larger ones.
Nuclear fusion will provide the primary source of power for the world. Not fission, because Uranium and the other fuel elements will be depleted. Fusion uses inexhaustible fuel.
Eventually, the natural cycles of the Earth will be replaced with automated ones. Photosynthesis and the other natural cycles. The ocean will no longer be able to support life, so the phytoplankton (from which most oxygen comes from) will not be there. I imagine cities will be centered around a large oxygen-producing building or chain of buildings. The wealthy will live close to it, and thus breath the freshest oxygen. As you travel down the social ladder, the lower the quality of life.
I believe we will be able to double or triple human life-span. The technology won't be available for the average citizen, but for the higher class, yes. Humans might be cloned for the sole purpose of organ farming, which would increase our life-span with infinitely available organs. Other processes will be able to further extend it, none of which would be natural processes.
