I had the same reaction, I thought the fall would've killed him or at least physically paralyzed him. But when he got back up with no problem, I was like "What? How is that possible? A normal malmute wouldn't come out alive or uninjured from a fall like that".

If it were a straight fall sure he woulda died. But he hit other rocks off the side on the way down if I remember correctly.
Giving him less momentum and probably saved his life. Sure he was sore, you could tell that from when he stood up again,
and probably limped for a little. But I think it's believable.

It is a movie so its possible and not that crazy that Steele would get up

Don't "it's a movie" me!! XD Characters still get hurt and die in movies, don't they?!

^ And by their logic Mufasa should be alive! O.O

Well, indeed, it is absurd, Steele falls from an impressive height and then immediately get up.
Look at the picture, it make you dizzy just watching it!


But I think that Steele didn't die after the fall just for the "economy" of the story. The movie needed a character who put Balto in difficulty (for example, the scene of the marks on the trees.)
Steele couldn't die because was still needed to confuse Balto on the way back to Nome with the team.

And I suppose every skydiving accident for whoever lived after plummeting from 2 miles in the air at 45+ miles per hour because of a parachute failing to open is unrealistic too, right folks? Get over your "logic".

There was a dog in my home town only 2 weeks or so ago that fell 100 feet down a cliff and walked off without even a bruise.

I thought about that too, but it didn't look like he'd been trampled to death. Course it is a Disney...

God, it wasn't EDITED or "cleaned", people, who wants to show a lion's dead body getting trampled by a herd of 600 lb wildebeests? Furthermore, Mufasa had a straight drop from a good two stories up. If he hit his head or broke his spine in the fall AND got trampled by 50 giant HOOFED animals, he ain't gonna live -_-

Back ON topic, Steele's fall was NOT FATAL. PLUS, he's a HUGE dog with lots of MUSCLE. So not only was his fall broken like seven times, but on top of that, there's a tough hide to land on.
