I've been an animation fan since before I could walk....and it's been a major part of my life, from Disney to Don Bluth (LOVEEEEE!!) and once I entered my teen years, anime. But apparently some animation fans really HATE it? Why and how? There's so much of it, such a variety in all different styles and stories and audiences that it's practically the same as saying you hate TV and movies.

So um....I'd like people to just explain in a civil manner why and before you list reasons, I need to jump ahead and reject ones I can think of:

Reason 1: "It's all the same style."

Argument: This is impossible.....first of all, no artist has the EXACT same style, and second, it's really not. Anime does not have a defined style. Yes, a lot of what you see have large eyes and brightly-colored hair but there are some with very realistic styles as well. Heck, Big O looks like the Batman style to me. So this reason just doesn't fly.

Reason 2: "It's stupid and perverse."

Argument: Some are and some are not. Some are really heartfelt, touching, and beautiful.

Reason 3: "There's no effort put into the animation".

Argument: WRONG. Again, depending on what you see, some of the animation is amazing and years ahead of Disney. Oh yes, I said it. I dare you to watch something like Air TV, Hellsing Ultimate or Ponyo and say "there's no effort put into the animation".

Reason 4: "I hate it because it ties into a bad experience/bad memories etc".

Argument: None. This is a legit reason....and probably the only reason I can accept without going, "Huh!? That's not true!!"

So if I have missed reasons others have, please state them. And please don't say "Because I hate Japan and Asian stuff". There's no way anyone here could be that ignorant.....right? I can tell this is a very sophisticated forum.

I can't imagine why anyone would hate anime. I love anime (Wolf's Rain, Spirited Away, Sonic X, GDW, Pokemon, ect.), Sonic X and Spirited Away being my tied favourites. Anime is just a better version of animation, and I agree with you Chiibi that anime is amazing and years ahead of disney (Even though, I did really enjoy movies like Fox and the Hound, Bambi, Bazil the Great Mouse Detective, Mary Poppins and Lion King). The only anime I do hate though, are anime that have horrible plots and there are barely any anime with horrible plots. Though, I would have to say I do not like Bakugan, Chaotic and Huntik. I said it once, I'll say it again...Why would anyone hate anime? Thats kinda stupid no offense to anyone who doesn't like anime.

Pokemon, Sonic X, Bakugan, Chaotic, Huntik, Zoids...These are counted as anime, and some people are saying they don't like it? Unbelievable

Hello Scout. Thank you for your input. I know, right!? It's very strange; you would think anyone who loves animation could appreciate it from other cultures as well. *sigh* Ah, yeah, I am not really a fan of the "gaming"-type anime like Bakugan or Pokemon (though I liked Pokemon as a twelve-year-old) lol My favorite type is magical girl and romance but I'm not picky about my genres because I feel that if you dismiss even one of them, you could be missing out on something wonderful. Except hentai. I will not watch that if you paid me.

A lot of people like to draw it just because it's "easy" it seems

Clothes are the hardest part for me....next to arms. I've been drawing the anime style since I was 13 and I STILL can't do arms right!

I think Disney characters are easier....for not having insanely detailed clothes or hair or eyes lol.

I don't know how anyone could hate anime. It's not much different than the average cartoon, except just different drawing styles, which EVERY ARTIST has.

I personally SUCK at drawing the normal cartoons, but anime seems to be easier for me to draw. I don't know why, but i suppose it's just I'm better at complicated things than simple things.

Anime all has a similar style, but no two drawing styles are the same, unless it's traced or something stupid like that.

I'm not afraid to say that I love it, and there's at least ONE anime or manga for everyone's tastes, even though it may be hard to find, but there's so many good ones that everyone has one out there waiting for them.

You can say hating anime is racism; just because the animation originates from Japan, they don't like it.

Hmm, that is racism. I personally find it hard to understand a Japanese person, but I would never actually dislike or hate them. Some of my best friends come from Japan and English is a second language to them. Is this the reason god created us? To hate people different than us? No. And just because anime comes from Japan, that doesn't mean people can hate it even more. At the end of the day we're all apart of ONE race, the human race.

Code Geass and Black Cat are the bomb. I have both on DVD!! And Lelouch and C.C. phone straps. XD

It's just because my avies and sigs are ALL anime/manga-related on the other 3450982345 forums I post to, that I chose one that isn't for the time being. ^^

I may be getting a backpack with the Hades on it (from Black Cat) xDD
Even though I'm in high school I still have a backpack...it's pretty sad but I don't care, I like it! I'm soo excited ^^

Anyway, back on topic:

The first anime that got me hooked was Sonic X...how cliche xD but then I got more into the people animes, then manga, then OBSESSION xD

Got DVDs from Best Buy. XD
I got the straps at the convention "Otakon" which is the biggest anime convention on the East coast of the USA.

The first anime I became obsessed over is Sailormoon but without knowing it, I saw lots of anime as a child. The Littl' Bits, the Noozles, Maya the Bee and Adventures of Unico were all from Japan!!

I went to a small one...at FYE in the mall xD

Going to a big anime con is something I've always thought would be a fun thing to do...



My dad rented all the Sailermoon episodes for me once when I was little, but it was super weird to me because of her boyfriend or whatever, an I was about 7 or 8 so I didn't understand it much.

Hmm, the anime that got me interested in anime was Sonic X. Then I heard people start talking about this "wolfs rain" and I watched all 30 episodes on youtube (I watched all 78 Sonic X episodes on youtube too XD) and then I rented all six discs from the video store and watched all 30 episodes again XD. I got into other anime like Pokemon and GDW, and then Spirited Away. I want to see Ponyo, and see what thats like.

Ponyo is awesome, cute, and trippy as all heck. XD The dub is almost as good as the sub, with the exception of Ponyo's father. Lol Liam Neilson lol....PUT FEELING INTO YOUR LINES!! XD

But in all seriousness, the animation is beautiful and very imaginative.

I mean the people who don't like anime because it's "different" or "looks weird". It's just from another culture!
