(I plan on adding a section on the site to post reviews, but for now I'll post a topic)

I have watched that episode for the first time (yes, there are still a few ones I haven't seen yet), and Oh My! That's another AAA episode in my book.
In fact, except from the lower quality animation, I think this is a perfect episode.
Baloo is shown as a slob, which suits him well (this is also seen in "A touch of glass"). This probably wasn't meant as a truly comedic episode, I found this was one of the most funny.

Though, I felt bad for Baloo when he tried really hard to "fit in" (and got rejected in the end), and I felt bad for Becky when she was embarassed with his behavior. But in the end she chooses him over everyone else, and that shows how much she cares about him, even if she would never admit it publicly. In a way, he showed her what was the most important in life. (which is probably the hidden "message" behind this episode)

As a whole, I'm sure this is one of the episodes that is aimed more at adults than kids. I don't think less than 10 years old would understand the social categories differences which the story centers around. That's not a problem, the series as a whole has plenty of things that could interest anyone.

I find that it has a very "movie" feeling, it's hard to believe that such an episode fits in 20 minutes! If there would have been a Talespin movie, I would have chosen either this one as a basis, "Last Horizons" or "A Bad Reflection on You".

This saddens me even more that Disney owns jewel series like this and won't even exploit them...If only the Disney TV animation wasn't run by incompetent people, who only wants to make short term profits :x

This episode was a really interesting one to critique because they spent too long with the good manners angle; and yet when Owl Capone came in they dropped it almost completely and it really got into an awesome groove and never looked back. I will say one thing about Jeffrey Scott; the writer of this episode: He can write great episodes when he gives a darn. I thought Paradise Lost (The Hunt according to him) was WildCat's finest hour.

The greatest part of the episode was near the end when Baloo's solution to get back to Cape Suzette he outright orders them to take off their clothes. I mention this because I believe that's how the Aladdin "Teenagers...Take Off Your Clothes!" conspiracy theory (which is false of course) got started. Rebecca's reaction was absolutely priceless on that one. Also near the beginning where Kit actually wants to be Rebecca's date. That cracked me up; although for the wrong reasons.

Well then, that underlines how much people can have different opinions. Because I consider Paradise Lost as one of the "worst" Talespin episodes (even though it's not THAT bad either, but it seriously was a little too "cute/kiddy" to me), and I liked the first half of My Fair Baloo as much as the second.

Err, I don't know about that, do you have some details?

Here's the full details from Snopes.com:

http://www.snopes.com/disney/films/aladdin.asp

I heard of the rumor before I ranted on My Fair Baloo and it came as a surprise to me at first. My point is I think the rumor got started because someone watched DTVA and just sub the finish to My Fair Baloo and put it into a scene in Aladdin for kicks. That's just me of course.

Even funnier is that the New Disney gets accused of the same things all the time. Then again; the internet amplifies everything.

Paradise Lost was kinda corny, Wildcat at least got a moment though. It also shown a neat portrayal of nobility for Baloo. Dollars in his eyes had always been a bit of an achieles heel for him (eg. Save The Tiger, Balooest of the Blue Bloods) so it was good to show there are some things he instantly out and out refuses for the sake of money and wittingly conjures a plan to save both the land and Wildcat (that the latter amusingly bumbles through: 'er-ha-ha-that-is-the-craziest-story-i-have-ever-heard'). Also you have to admit despite it's kiddy tone, whatever fate is planned for the bounty hunter is suggested to be rather darkly.

As for My Fair Baloo I admit it's one of my favorites. Shows neat bonding between Baloo and Rebecca (which as some complained came off a bit too one sided in some other episodes) and almost showing as Baloo as, for all his bumbling, almost a knight in shining armor for Becky. The snake rescue scene is especially heartwarming (you have to enjoy the Kaa reference too).

Only big complaint is that the villain seems to be shifted too much in the background and in comparison to other hilarious spotlight stealers like Karnage only gets a few notable scenes.

That and as said, the episode was handed to one of the poorer studios. That said the character designs are cute and expressive (Rebecca looks cute in this episode at least, in comparison to some of even the higher quality studios that draw her with a perpetually crabby look, eg. the slightly similar plotted 'Gruel and Unusual Punishment'). That and, like with all iffy animation there are some laughs about the odd transitions an movement (anyone else laugh at 'Lefty' running in the air after the plane goes beserk?).

Just to add; My Fair Baloo had two shots of one of Owl Capone's goons shooting the machine gun edited out when the episode went to the Disney Channel and Toon Disney. Those shots are retained in the DVD release however. I have edited the TaleSpin Edits Page to reflect that.

Such edits are becoming less and less of a surprising detail, in an era where they won't even let Elmer shoot Daffy's beak off, I don't see Talespin lasting well sadly.

At the same time...are there REALLY parents who would sue them for such things? Or aren't they just over-reacting on the whole thing, by fear ONE person in the entire population would sue them?
Most "parents" have seen these cartoons themselves, in unedited versions (mostly), so there's no logic to that. And if most adults are considering nowadays series like c***, there's a reason...the creators don't have anymore freedom. (not like it's the only reason why they're bad though, far from it)

Two new edits added for Bringing Down Babyface which brings the total to four edits for that episode alone.

- Just when the Chuckleheads enter the antique car and Baloo stands there looking stunned as machine gun fire rains destroying the cake and balloons before Baloo is haulied into the car. What Toon Disney snipped out was the shot where we see Malarkey shooting the actual machine gun.

- During the scene where Baloo is standing behind the door and the Chucklehead are about to kill him with their pistols; the actual gun cocking (where the gun clicks) by the Chuckleheads and a shot of one of the Chuckleheads about to pull the trigger is snipped out.

Considering what Toon Disney showed; I'm surprised that it was only edited four times. As I said before; these edits are laughable because there is no consisteny nor reason in them.

Jumping the Guns has two edits....

- When Louie swings onto the catwalk; the Air Pirates start shooting at the SeaDuck and Louie. Toon Disney snipped out the shot of the Air Pirates shooting their guns.

- When the SeaDuck flies around; we see a the Air Pirates in far away in the background shooting at it. The next shot is a closeup of some of the Air Pirates shooting and that shot was cut out.

I must admit I don't care much about the edits, considering it's not currently airing and that the DVDs contain totally unedited versions...
But I still think most of these edits are completly stupid.

I'm REALLY grateful they didn't put the "cut" versions on DVD.

Well it's hardly the only gunfire incident provoked due to the Spruce Moose anyway:

Fun Fact: The Spruce Moose can carry two hundred passengers from New York's Idyllwild Airport to the Belgian Congo in seventeen minutes.
