Ok well this is my first fanfic that I am currently writing. I think I have finally finnished the introduction of all the characters and I am planning to continue, but before I do I want to see people's opinions on it.

Ill give you a bit of info on this story:

- Sam and Silver will be the main characters
* I only have sam's page up so far http://www.animationsource.org/balto/en ... /5636.html
* But here is a pic of Silver I have
http://www.animationsource.org/balto/en ... umart=6818

- The major question of the story is what's more important friendship or responsibility?
* Please tell me what you believe is more important

- Please keep in mind that the story isnt close to being finnished yet so dont make any comments about the lack of plot. Thanks
* Anything other than a compliment or helpful critic will be reported so NO FLAMMING!
*And NO Stealing!

-And last is the Summary!
* This is the story of Aniu, Balto's Uncle Silver and Jenna's father Sam.
Sam's sled team is attacked by a Moose and Sam has to trust a wolfpack to survive.
Silver is the fickle alpha leading a pack with the help of his sister.
When these two meet everything changes. Sam must cope with being the smallest and weakest member of a wolf pack, always failing and never helping. While Silver... your just gunna have to read and find out ;)

YELLOW LEAVES: PART 1

He woke up on the frozen ground with a chill that kept nipping and nagging at his side. Sam groaned and opened his eyes slightly getting a small glimpse at a face so familiar that he didn’t even notice a change in her at first. He yawned and stretched his sore limbs. Sam relaxed a little and looked forward with a small crooked grin on his face until his eyes met hers. Sam choked, her eyes were glazed over. All the love he saw in them was gone. She was gone. His eyes brimmed with salty tears. Sam’s body shook violently as he let all his pain and despair rush from his body like a waterfall. He remembered…

Sam laid there for hours wallowing in his despair. He hadn’t moved and didn’t care too. All he knew was that his true love was lost… gone into forever, and he never got to say goodbye. Beyond her were the empty harnesses of his team mates, the staggering boot prints of his master, and the hoof prints of a bull moose. Trees were barely visible over the rolling snow heaped hills that now surrounded the pitiable red dog. Town was miles and miles away seeming to be beyond his reach. Sam wailed out to the heavens that seemed to crash down upon him. He screamed and cried and poured out large salty tears all around him melting small bits of the snow beneath him, until his throat burned in agony of its misuse.

“You’re pathetic.” He heard a rough, forceful voice come from behind him. Sam bristled. Sam tried to growl but it came out rather raspy from weeping so much. “Don’t push me dog. I would gladly end your life… if not for my sister beseeching me not to.” Sam turned to face his upward towards an unwanted company. Sam knew as soon as he saw him that he would not want to get on this wolf’s bad side. He was a lot larger and looked a few moons older, but yet Sam felt this warmth pulse through his veins at the sight of him and he felt safe around him. The wolf saw what he thought was a blush come upon the dogs face. He stalked closer to Red or so he had come to call him in his mind. “You’re freezing. You have been out here for quite some time. You probably won’t make it through the night and you won’t make it back to my… our pack’s rendezvous.” The light grey wolf drifted even closer and lay next to the red husky. “So… our pack?” Sam pondered. “Yes. My sister, Aniu, says that we could use a dog that can survive a moose charge. Seems like all the dogs in your team have though… well except for your slender mate, but I still don’t get what is so extraordinary about you.” The wolf assured. Sam gritted his teeth his mate’s death would always be a sore subject that he never wanted to bring up again. Silver realized his mistake and dipped his head a little in empathy.
They laid there in silence for ten minutes just taking in each other’s heat. “So, what is your name?” Sam finally asked. “Silver,” he replied bluntly. “And you Red what is yours?” Sam snorted at the nickname. “Sam.” He said trying to mimic Silver’s bluntness. “Not your pet name you real name.” Silver said snarling out the word pet. “My mom named me Odo, but I only let my mate call me that.”

The Sun finally set for that day. As night crept on, the howls that Silver had grown to love and respect called out requesting where he was. Luckily Sam was sound asleep, the bags under his eyes where explanation enough. Silver rose quietly, he stalked up the nearby hill and was soon sending out his powerful and heartfelt howl. Sam moaned happily in his sleep, the sound of sweet music filling his dreams. Silver finished harmonizing with his sister and he sent the message that they are to wait for his return. “Another member of the Abetzi clan” Silver chuckled quietly to himself. He trotted off to make sure the newest member of his family was warm.

Sam awoken slightly at the noise of footsteps the spot on his back where Silver leaned against was now cold. Sam thought he was abandoned… so much for trusting wolves he thought. But even as he thought that, his heart sank. Sam didn’t know why it sank, just that the wolf meant a great deal to him, like a hero or something. Just as he felt his grief return Sam sensed the warmth return to him, but not just on his back.

Silver was not a shy wolf, but being around Sam made him want to be more outgoing than he already was. Silver felt Sam stir slightly and knew he had woken up. “Sorry.” Silver grumbled a little angry at Sam for interrupting his thoughts. Sam snuggled in closer to the warmth of Silver’s larger body. Silver smiled at Sam’s attempt at pretending to sleep. Silver tried to recapture his thoughts but he slowly started to fall asleep himself. The next morning came sooner than both the males had expected. Sam wanted to fall back to sleep but Silver told him their trip would take all day and if they don’t leave now they wouldn’t make it by sun down.

They had walked for a few hours now and Sam had a full stomach from the recent meal he digested. Sam collected the feelings he previously had last night. He would never share these thoughts but he needed answers that could only be found within him. Like a hero or something… he recollected this from last night. …Or something, but what? Sam thought for a while Silver had saved his life he was his knight in shining armor. He shuddered at this thought. But as he thought about it he snuck a glance at Silver only to catch him staring at him. Sam blushed, from embarrassment. Then it hit him Silver was his spirit guide. There was no other explanation.

Silver scolded himself. He was embarrassed at getting caught. What was wrong with him? Why was he such an idiot? You get caught when you stare at someone for five minutes straight! Silver yelled at himself in his head. This was the first male Silver knew around his age, he was thinking of what it would be like if he knew him as a pup. Silver didn’t consider Sam a dog anymore… he was now part of the pack.

Sam never had a best friend he didn’t know any other dogs beside his team and his siblings who made up almost all of his team mates, except for one, Hesh. Hesh was a strange sort and was always bumbling about. He never really spoke much and when he did it was hardly audible. The brownish husky used to follow Sam’s brother Edge around like a duckling to its mother. Sam got excited and wiggled his tail a bit. A spirit guide oh he always wanted one and he now had one. He started to get excited and playfully bumped into Silver. Silver quickly caught on to the game and chased Sam.

This dog is really spirited he will be a great addition to the pack... Aniu was true, Silver thought to himself but as soon as he did he cursed himself under his breath. He was supposed to be playing why did he always think with the mind of an alpha? Silver emptied his mind and sprinted after Sam. The time flew by so quickly and neither of them tired. Silver didn’t even realize he had came to the rendezvous until he heard a light laugh come from his sister and Shark Teeth mutter “Pups,” just loud enough for him to hear. Silver froze. Sam laughed and jumped on him playfully until he heard a sharp growl come from Silver followed by being bit in the back of the scruff and was pinned down be a great amount of weight.

“Silver... He is just playing relax.” Aniu replied to this bestial behavior. Shark Teeth snickered. Silver glared at the black wolf. The scars on Shark Teeth’s face crinkled with his ugly sneer. Silver stood over Sam and turned his attention to Shark Teeth. Sam was a little nervous under Silver. He never had been around so many wolves in his life. This would be hard getting used to, it was easy to accept Silver’s company but being around so many creatures that were larger than him was frightening. Aniu sensed the fear emitting from Sam’s smaller body. “Silver! Do you have no conscious mind at all?” Silver turned his attention to his sister’s words. He instinctively looked down at Sam to see his nervous shaking form. “Sorry sister, you are my conscious mind. You are the one that guides me when I am weary and blind to my actions.” “Do not vex my brother, for you are the power behind my words and the strength of this pack.” She said as if her kind and wise strength had no effect on the world, but Aniu was to humble. Silver knew that he would run the pack into turmoil if it wasn’t for her forgiving nature and her trust in others. She even trusted Shark Teeth who would often attack Silver for a chance to be leader. Silver knew she had a playful side that hid under her calm picturesque features. Aniu had the essences of a pearl that was covered with a small layer of dust. Sam liked her, she had motherly features that made him feel calmer and her voice was melodious almost like the angel Gabrielle the incorruptible herself. It was almost the opposite of Silver’s equally melodic yet more trumpeting voice compared to Aniu’s murmuring spring voice.

As Silver calmed he remembered that he was over Sam almost like a mother fox guarding her kits through life or in death. Silver flushed slightly and slowly got off of him. Sam was happy for the freedom but when he rose he realized just how awkward their position had been. Aniu cooed to Sam in a more motherly voice “Don’t worry my dear we won’t hurt you.” Sam thought it was nice but he refused to be talked to like an innocent pup with half a brain. “I know you mean no harm,” he scoffed slightly. Silver gave him a harsh glare. Sam slunk back slightly not really realizing that he was showing his weakness. Shark Teeth observed this, his mind thirstily wanted to dominate him and make him cower before him. His restraint over his actions withered like a flower that had been pluck by an ignorant human. Shark Teeth slunk behind Sam and bit his flank. Sam yelped a surprised alarm. Silver bristled. Aniu stood there watching and observing, she wanted to know how this would play out. Was the dog really as strong as she had hoped or just lucky.

Shark Teeth released his paw and glared at the dog. Silver had waited for Shark Teeth to slip up. He could handle Shark Teeth harassing him on a regular basis but when he heard Sam’s yelp a fiery heat built in Silver’s chest and made him snap. Sam lifted his back foot to protect it from further pain. He growled knowing he would have to prove himself worthy. But as most dogs, do he raised his head in defiance unlike Shark who held his head low to made sure his neck was protected. Silver had planned to punish Shark later for his actions but as he noticed Sam’s stance, Shark was going to milk this for all it’s worth, he wanted to make Silver suffer. Shark charged Sam leaped at him who met him half way. Shark clamped down on his other paw. He felt the tissue tear under his grip. Sam did a summersault due to his front paw being caught. Shark had obviously won but he wouldn’t relent. Shark Teeth changed his attack from the paw to his stomach. Sam felt this and doubled over in pain. He had to get away from this crazed wolf to regroup himself.

Silver couldn’t hold off any longer he had to save his new friend. Silver charged into the scrap and grabbed the back of Shark’s neck. Silver was larger than Shark Teeth and could slightly lift him up. Sam felt the weight being lifted off of him. Once again Silver had saved his ***. Sam felt like an idiot. Silver continued to snarl over Shark Teeth, "I'll kill you, you useless- Silver!!" Silver looked up at Aniu's glare, he looked down slightly and softly glanced on the bloody Sam. He had completely forgotten. "Sam?" He asked. Sam looked up and met Silver's cool steal grey eyes. Aniu trotted over to tend to Sam's, or so she heard her brother call him, wounds. Silver was dumbfounded watching Sam as he calmed down under Aniu's rough yet motherly touch. Sam gave a small thankful smirk to her.

When Sam was feeling well enough to stand he was introduced to the pack. "That is my sister Aniu," Silver started off "she is alpha along with me." He said. Sam slightly nodded to her. "The one who had attacked you earlier was Shark Teeth, it'd be for everyone's best interest if you stayed by me for a while." He continued. “Why?" Sam interrupted. "Well... because he will probably hassle you more to get on my nerves." Silver grumbled. Sam looked up slightly stunned by Silver's tone but soon realized it wasn't pointed at him. "Next we have Saturn," Sam pointed his attention towards a golden and mahogany wolf. Brown and blue eyes were met by green as both males sized the other up. Sam's eyes widened when he noticed Saturn's missing leg. Saturn gave him a big grin. The older wolf bounded playfully over to Sam and bumped heads with him in a greeting fashion. "Well hello there lad, what brings you up to our neck of the woods?" Silver gave him a look that made Saturn think twice about wanting to know the answer. Even though Saturn was taller than Silver he would never dare cross his alpha's path. Saturn then turned and left a surprised Sam in a rather quick bustle.

A young wolf that looked like he still needed to grow into his paws bounded up to them. His tail wagged with curiosity and his whimpered in an impatient manner. Silver glared at him slightly. “Owl Eyes!" He ordered. Owl Eyes froze from his position of sniffing Sam's ear. "Y-y-yes?" he stuttered nervously. "Why aren't you with the pups?" Silver demanded. Owl Eyes grinned at this. "Oh, Lady Blue took them for a stroll down to the creek." He chirped as though it was the most obvious thing on Earth. Silver smiled at the mention of his mate's name, boy he missed her. "Excuse me gentlemen, but I have to make sure my lady is ok." He chuckled slightly and with a quick wink he left. Owl Eyes grinned back at Sam and cocked his head to the side.

Up on the creek's ledge laid a slim grey wolf. She looked to be at peace. Silver smiled and snuck up behind her. Blue heard a rustle that was followed by a loving nuzzle in her neck fur. "Your back..." she breathed. Silver stood back a bit and smiled a crooked smile. Blue looked up and winked. She stood and floated over closer to where her pups splashed happily in the sparkly pool.

Raven Killer, a large all black and light grey, pup stomped after his lighter grey and white sister Va. They laughed simultaneously. But sitting on the sidelines was Black Tip; he was rather intelligent and often didn't join in playing with his stronger brother. Silver smiled at the sight and leaped into the water, startling the pups. "Daddy!" Va yelled. She splashed up and nuzzled him. Raven Killer glared at his father. Black Tip reluctantly trotted over to him. Silver smiled at Raven Killer "Raven Killer, son, please come join me." Raven just stared at him, and didn't budge. As Silver spoke Black Tip dropped his ears and blushed a little, of course his father never acknowledge him first. Raven noticed Black Tip looking heartbroken and rolled his eyes at him.
