Even though I'm very much into the "DA" shows since one year, there are still things I'm discovering...

A company named Electric Tiki is making collectibles statues for many franchises, including Disney ones.

http://www.electrictiki.com/homepage/tikihome.html

So far they've released several (wonderful) products, such as :

A Rescue Rangers : http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodi ... er=EL21263

A Darkwing Duck :

The company is a small one, they're "artisanal" and limited pieces, which also explains the expensive price, but seeing the quality, I believe they're worth it for the fans. I may even consider buying the Rescue Rangers one since it's still in stock, though I fear that with the shipping it may be a little too expensive...

But I know that if they would release a Talespin one with the same quality, I would buy it whatever the price! :P

I think there's still a chance that it will happen, because they called the Rescue Rangers one "Disney Project number Three" (
http://www.electrictiki.com/classic%20t ... ngers.html
) and they're doing 15 projects. But maybe not, because it's not featured on that image :

At the same time, it's written "Phase One", so there may be more...Crossing fingers...

BTW, I love the art produced (considering this comes from a Disney artist, I guess this is expected!) :

Yep, I had seen these before, but that doesn't make them any less cool! My only complaint (besides the fact that they don't have a TS one yet) is that Chip's expression is different on the statuette than on the Disney drawing. He looks happy to be holding Dale on his shoulders on the statuette where on the drawing, he looks impatient and a little annoyed, like he's thinking: "Hurry up you guys, you're heavy!". If you've ever seen CDRR, the drawing is closer to what his expression would really be. Other than that, they both look great!

Other question almost totally unrelated to TS: I noticed the tiki site uses frames... I thought frames are practically obsolete... I ask because I'm helping to fix/update BalooLagoon (mainly to learn web development but also because the site has a few problems, like broken links, etc.) and I was considering using frames on the art pages to show the thumbnails, but I wasn't sure if that was a good idea because of the drawbacks that frames can have. I know the best way to handle it would be to use PHP and MySQL, like your sites, but at the moment all I know is HTML and CSS. I know C++, and I understand PHP is very similar, so I shouldn't have too much trouble picking it up, and MySQL is supposed to be pretty user-friendly as well. I don't really know JavaScript, but it doesn't look too difficult from what I've seen of it. (It's also somewhat similar to C++ if I remember correctly...) Anyway, just wondering...

But back on topic, Nice find! If they come out with a TS statuette and I'm not broke, I'll totally snag one.

Well, frames aren't "forbidden", just discouraged because there are better ways to do things. Though, as you said, the best is to use php/MySQL.

Yes, if you know C++ you shouldn't have too much problems. You'll find a lot of tutorials on the web. But if you need help on a specific problem, you can ask me of course :)
Do you know databases too?
I don't think you'll need Javascript, usually I only use it when I want to make an easier interface for the users (like choosing the characters when sending a fanart for example, or previewing fanarts...) but most of the time I prefer not using it.

Yes, actually I didn't notice it but now you're saying this...But it's still a very good piece of art.

Yep, that's what I thought. Though I'll probably go ahead and finish the frames version "as is" because I don't yet know php and also because the site isn't being updated anymore. If it was still being updated then php/MySQL would be a necessity.

I've seen some code snippets and the syntax is very much like C++, so I think I'll be ok. Thanks for the offer to help! I may take you up on that if I have a problem that I can't figure out.

I wouldn't say that I "know" databases, but I've skimmed over a brief introductory tutorial and the syntax and code looks fairly simple... At least not nearly as complicated as C++.

I don't really need it for anything specific at the moment, I just thought it would be a good language to add to my "programming arsenal". ;)

P.S. sorry to go so far off topic...

Anyway, yeah, the statues are really good! I personally would LOVE to have a Kit-on-his-airfoil statue. And also a Don Karnage one... Ah heck, I'd want 'em all!

I had sent an email to the company, to know if they planned to do a Talespin one, and I received an answer which is not very positive (but not totally negative either) :

Quote:
We may consider Baloo if our Disney license is renewed. The other Disney afternoon characters only sold moderately well, so we'd have to think about it.

Disappointing to see they didn't sell too well. At the same time, even as a fans of these shows, I did not know about them, so I'm sure it's the same for a lot of people...
I really hope that Darkwing comic will sell more than "moderately well", or else...*sigh*

I still don't understand. Why do they all keep thinking that Rescue Rangers or Darkwing Duck products will sell better than Talespin ones? It doesn't sound fair. From what I can see, the Talespin DVDs often outsell the other two on Amazon...And same thing for Gummi Bears which is almost as popular as Ducktales, and yet nothing comes for it either.

those are pretty sweet statues.. I would love a Tale Spin and Bonkers one myself ( although it would also be nice if they released Bonkers on DVD :(.. too bad about those sales..

here's a Gargoyles one for fans of that show..

And it goes on...

Disney will release new VinylMation figures for the Disney Afternoon shows.

Image

I'm FURIOUS. It seems we Talespin fans are just denied *EVERYTHING*, even little merchandise like that!!! And it goes on and on and on...As long as they won't deliver anything new for the series, they will always consider it badly and will never come back to it. That's a vicious circle... This is seriously getting on my nerves. And where's Gummi Bears too? Did they fall into a blackhole or what?? Is there a curse??

I'm now strongly believing that if a revival of the Disney Afternoon happens (as it seems to begin), Talespin will not be part of it...And people will start forgetting progressively about it and considering it as a sub-par series.

Edit : On a second thought, I'm probably just overreacting and they just didn't have space to include all the names on that powerpoint...But still, the fact they always give priority to the same ones means a lot.

Electric Tiki Co. created 2 new statues based on Disney Afternoon shows: TaleSpin Baloo and Darkwing Duck Gosalyn. The statues will be available for sale starting in October. When Disney announced that they would be re-releasing their line of “Disney Afternoon” statues, they intended to keep the same sculpts that had been previously used before MasterBundles. However, it seems that there was a logistical problem with this plan.
