I guess most of you already know this, but I didn't. 3 years before Talespin, there was this TV series :
Now let's see...A fat bear wearing a cap and a yellow jacket? Piloting a...boat? Who has a little bri...err, "little bear"? And the voice actors...Ed Gilbert and R.J.Williams?? Where have I heard these names before?
I guess we learn something new everyday
And besides that, it's very beautifully animated (thanks to Japan animation), looks very much Miyazaki-like. Sure, it's different on the story side from Talespin, being more aimed at youngsters. But I have only watched that episode, and I must say it's at least 1 million times better than what's currently airing for the same crowd nowadays, whether you talk about Dora the explorer, Strawberry shortcake or (a similar one) Franklin the Turtle. (ok maybe not 1 million, but you understand what I mean) And I already love the intro theme.
Seriously, I don't know who owns the rights to this, but they definitely should do something with it, I'm sure it would be successful if re-aired. Why do the best ones get forgotten, and the bad ones get new series / reaired?
EDIT : Apparently I have my answer on who owns the rights : Universal. No wonder it's so unknown. They're not even interested in animation anymore (except for outsourced CGI films)

Yep, I already knew Ed Gilbert and R. J. Williams voiced characters on both Kissyfur and TS, but I hadn't actually bothered to watch an episode of Kissyfur. (RJ also voiced Calvin on Gummi Bears.) Frankly it looked like it would be too "sweet/cute" and "kiddy" for me to enjoy, after all, the main character is named "Kissyfur"... well, after watching it and giving it a chance, I can now say that I was wrong. It's actually a really good cartoon! Yes, it is meant for a younger audience than TS, but it can still be enjoyed by adults just like TS. It's surprisingly well written and animated, even if the animation style is super-cute. After watching the episode you posted from YouTube, I watched three more episodes! (I could only find four eps on YouTube :-\)
I'm not sure, but I think I may have some very faint memories of watching Kissyfur when I was really young, because those alligators do seem familiar.
I'll even admit that after watching those four episodes, I actually tried to find a torrent or rapidshare download, or at least more streaming episodes, but unfortunately I had no luck. There's not even any DVDs for it either, (big surprise). Maybe I'll buy some VHS tapes from ebay someday...
Anyway, thanks for posting this! It was cool to see another quality cartoon featuring TS voice talent.

Well, you EXACTLY have the same feeling as me You can also find the pilot episode in a foreign language. You would be surprised because the beginning is actually slightly dark...

Same thing...I think I remember some parts of the intro, but I was probably very young when I watched it (3 or 4 years old)

That can be arranged I have ordered a bootleg DVD (recorded from VHS), which contains (almost) all episodes in english. I'll be sure to share them when I receive it.
