I've been thinking about my old fanfic White Legend as I go over it for posting on fanfiction.net, and although I was quite pleased with it when it was first released (and I still am), now I see a number of opportunities to improve on it: added scenes, improved narrative, etc.

Of course, I don't want to leave Balto Source with lesser merchandise. So the question came to me, should I just overwrite the existing story with the enhanced version, or should I put out the new and improved story as a separate fanfic? I have my own thoughts on the matter, but I want to hear yours.

Before I give my opinion for sure, I just want to ask this: Just how major are the changes?

Are there large scene additions or is it just some more narration here and there. Also, is anything from the old story removed? If so, then how much has been pulled out?

Well, I don't anticipate any major plot changes, but there will be some scenes added. I intend to put in, in vivid detail, a lot of the stuff that was skimmed over before, as well as adding some new stuff that wasn't there before. For example, without going into too many spoilers, there will be at least a couple of standoffs and maybe a fight scene or two added to amplify the tension between Kodan and Kava, along with some gentler moments to build on the developing attachment between the two main characters. I also might have some material incorporated concerning how Kodan gets along with Aniu's parents, the leaders of the pack, and perhaps improve the parts surrounding her siblings as well, since they didn't show up much in the original.

To put it in travel terms, the road will stay more or less the same, but with more landmarks and detail.

Well, considering how you're actually making some major changes here, I would say put it up as a completely separate story. It has been some time since you put up the original, and people might not bother to look at the older version, even though it has the updated text. Having it as a brand new story will bring many readers in, new and old.

Plus, having both versions up can be a demonstration of how you writing has evolved over time.
