Uk, i've tried that they tell you to shut up and then they keep talking or they act like they own the shout out box. plus it's hard to keep track of the converastion your having about the Movie/Characters/and so on, if all it's blown away with "I hate myself so much" or "you shouldn't have said _____ to me " Or "i'm so mad at you" and things like that.
You have to understand, such behaviour (other than telling people to shut up for no good reason) is not prohibited in the shoutbox. Even though they might act like they own the shoutbox (which I assure you they don't), they are not in violation of any (written) rules by doing so. Unless having an attitude is considered a crime (I recall that it isn't).
However, there are a lot of things that can fall under the category of spamming and if a member is being annoying, you could always file a report & explain exactly why you feel that we should take action against that member.
We mods are very flexible and we all moderate a bit differently; some moderators may be more or less strict than others, some are more likely to give extra chances & some aren't - our job is to make your experience on Animation Source as good as possible and that is first and foremost what we try to do.
But we cannot please everyone and for every action we make there is an opposite reaction; if one member receives a warning and another doesn't, for instance, that could be perceived as unfair. Here, one member will be pleased with our decision & the other wouldn't. That just cannot be helped and we just have to deal with the opposite reaction as best we can.
But when all comes down to it, we try to find a good resolution for both parties that do not necessarily involve warnings or bans. It is why we seldomly warn/ban first & ask questions later; most members with a warning today have received some kind of PM notice (not a warning, but a head's up), except members who have made more severe offenses such as flaming, prior to those warnings being issued.
In this case, we'd like to ask you to just report people who act like what you described on the shoutbox and if you're in doubt of which category they fit into, simply report them for spamming.
And do remember to tell us why you feel we should take action.
Put please consider that even though we forbid the discussion of certain, inflammatory subjects, we do try and allow members as much freedom of speech as we possibly can and to the extent of my knowledge, talking about your personal problems (health, mental, etc.) is not explicitly forbidden.
What is forbidden, however, is to argue personal issues with other members in public. If someone has a personal issue with another member, they need to try and solve it through PM's. Alternatively, they can involve the moderators.
*edit* Might also add; our rules aren't exhaustive. People are also bound by unwritten, obvious laws (think: what would you do in front of a crowd in real life?) that really shouldn't have to be mentioned - common sense, in other words.
So even if you see something that isn't covered by the list of AS rules but you still feel that it should be reported, we encourage you to do it.
