I would say that there are too many criterions to know that :
- the time of airing, - the country, - the channel, - the advertisement...
What I know is that they SHOULD try and see what happens. The Talespin series (and the other DA series) are generally acclaimed for being of much higher quality compared to what they did afterwards, and that's not without reasons - I don't know if the nowadays young viewers would "instantly" adopt them if they were to air them again, but if they pushed them a little, I'm sure it would work very nicely.
And as what they're interested in is $$$, they should not forget that Talespin has a LOT of potential on the merchandise side: just think of the characters (widely-known Jungle book characters...), settings and especially the planes...I thought that Disney wanted to attract "boys", wouldn't that be a VERY good way?), much more than any other series Disney has produced so far. If I were them, that's what I would have tried instead of just buying another company...
But first of all, Disney has to repair its image - P&TF just proved that there is still a long way to go...

I think it would be huge if re aired. No question. If nothing else it would be a a breath of fresh air compared to what kids are watching today. Cartoons today have obnoxious one dimensional characters and only go for cheap laughs. A show of TaleSpins calibur would deliver laughs and emotion they never knew exsisted. And besides all the old Disney movies are still popular today so I dont see why an old disney cartoon wouldnt be just as welcome. Bring back the enitre Disney Afternoon lineup. But on a channel everyone has. Not everyone had Toon Disney when they were airing reruns. Tale Spin is Timeless

Quote: And besides all the old Disney movies are still popular today so I dont see why an old disney cartoon wouldnt be just as welcome. Maybe because, unlike their features, they never made any effort to keep them "alive"? I mean, the only thing they did since they ended is releasing them on DVD 20 years later, and only partly...Since when have we seen Disney showing some of the characters from these shows? In theme parks, for example?...Or comics? (excluding Ducktales of course...) Or merchandise? These are only a few examples. Yes, they aired them for a while - in the US only, and not on public channels (I think) Here in France, they have NEVER re-aired. NE-VER. The only "Disney" shows airing are live-action Hannah Montana-like ones. So yes, that's why even though I know many people would love these series if Disney were to show them again, they would need to make some efforts first. I still have faith that, even if this takes decades, one day or another they will be popular again. (I just hope it won't be in CGI...like Chipmunks for example...) Welcome here, by the way

That is why I hate the disney channel now. All they show is live action pre teen shows. But they do still show The Little Mermaid and Lilo and Stitch animated series but its only at 3 or 4 in the morning. Makes no sense. I've also noticed how nearly all cartoons are cgi now. On nickelodeon and cartoon network the vast majority are cgi. I dont know what it is but cgi just doesnt appeal to me. Even great cgi like pixar still does nothing for me. I still prefer and will always prefer hand drawn 2d. If they ever brought back Tale Spin in CGI then I would offically be done with Disney. I dont care what they say about it being cheaper and time saving. To me it just sounds like they are being lazy. And this is a great site. Glad to be aboard.

I think the Rescue Rangers, just as Ducktales released a bunch of comic books. But yeah, this is truly a great show that needs to be re-aired again - definately BTW. Great site you have, just joined today

Welcome I meant that the characters from these series have never been featured in comic books since they ended (except for Ducktales characters : McScrooge, the nephews etc...but that's different because they originally came from comic books) But I believe all the DA series had comic books when they were airing.

I think: Maybe so. I agree that the audience would probably be made up almost entirely of adults that watched TS as kids, but that's Ok. They may even have kids of their own to introduce to TS.
I'd like to think that if TS was re-aired it would be a hit with kids today, but I just don't think that would happen. As sad as it is, kids today seem to have been conditioned to only like shallow, pointless, CGI or live action shows. Maybe if TS could be "sold" as the "brand-new show that all the cool kids watch" it might have a chance, because I know if they were to find out it's really a 20 year old cartoon that their parents grew up with, they won't want to touch it with a ten foot pole, regardless of how good it might be. I used to feel this way about old movies so I avoided them for a long time because I assumed that old=boring and/or stupid, but I was proven wrong. Old movies often rival or far exceed the quality of much newer movies, IMO.
There's also the concern that most people I've talked to about the subject seem to appreciate TS more as an adult than as a kid, including myself. I'm not exactly sure why that is, but it seems to be the general consensus.
I have more to say, but it's getting late and I'm falling asleep at the keyboard so I'll have to add more later.
BTW, good pole! This topic could go on for a while!

Meanwhile, Disney is looking for ideas for the next 2D feature film...They're saying they don't want to make a fairy tale again. If I were them, I would push forward to a Talespin film, it would be just perfect and exactly what they "need". (of course it won't happen, but one can still dream, right?) I mean : Talespin has exactly the Disney spirit they're looking to regain, some magic, action, great characters, solid stories, appealing to *everyone*, and considering it's been 15 years since the series stopped airing, it would be both an original film and a rediscovery! Seriously, except for a new IP, I can't see a better match... In any case, as long as it's the OPPOSITE of THAT : I would be happy enough...

The biggest problem I have is that Disney is doing "me too!", copying whatever generates money from the other companies without any second thought. There was once a time when they WERE the one leading, with good shows or films that the other companies tried to copy... Honestly, I would rather seeing them doing nothing rather than doing THAT.

Couldn't be more right actually, just look at Nick and cartoon network, all kinds of crazy stuff there nowadays.

Talespin and all the other DA shows were on TV in my country when I was a kid. Believe it or not those shows were and most probably can still be the most popular cartoon shows to ever air on Bulgarian TV. We used to go out and play football, hide & seek and so on,but when the DA shows were being aired.... there were no kids on the streets... at all - Yes the DA shows were that big in my country.
That's why I think that if TS comes back it will be a big hit, at least here, in Bulgaria.

Really? Well that's surely good to know! Thanks for sharing that piece of info. I know the shows are more or less popular depending on the country (it's not as popular in France than it is in the US for example)
