The door opened and closed, giving the murky, dark hallway a brief glimmer of light. Ridge's blue eyes opened and he could hear the dogs in the cages on either side moving around.
"What do you see Galileo?"
"New dogs" the Border collie in the cage to Ridge's right answered. "From what I can see, pups"
Ridge frowned and got to his feet, trying to get a glimpse of the poor pups that were coming in.

Sophie was softly whimpering. She wasn't very old. Maybe four months. She squirmed and whined. This place was scary! Sophie just wanted the nice old lady who adopted her. Or even her mother and siblings back on the farm in Montana. The human roughly put the pup into a cage across from Ridge and his compian to the right. Sophie's brown ears stuck to her skull. The border collie and belgian sheep dog cross was mostly a dark hue of black. What was the msot noticable about her was her hazel teal eyes that looked into the room with fear and fright.

Ridge glared at the human who had placed the new dog in the cage and felt the hair rise on his back. More dogs whose lives he wanted to screw up. The Sarloos wolfhound to Ridge's left and the English shepherd above Ridge both shifted in their cages, sensing that Ridge was about to put one of his crazy plans into action.
"Gali-"
"Way ahead of you Ridge" Galileo answered, already getting set to open the cage door.
Ridge grinned. The other two were already braced.

Sophie inched forward, watching the others acrossed from her. Her little face of beauty screwed into a expression of intrest. She swallowed and her eyes travled from the black and white dog, to the large grayish brown hued one. She starred at him, wondering how a dog could be so big. She's never seen many other dogs before. Her eyes focused on ridge the most though. She watched him intensly and intently. Her pink nose got so close it touched the cold metal bars. This alarmed her and she stepped back again. Her dainty paws shaking under her. She was very shy and nervously but she had to say something! She awkwardly blurted out in a small voice to the others. "Hello." Her ears learned forward for a split second before falling against her head again.

In an instant, Galileo was out of his cage and the lanky black and white dog was at Ridge's cage.
"Can't you get out of these yourself?" Galileo questioned while easily undoing Ridge's cage.
"Yeah, but I can only do it the loud way"
While the collie undid the Sarloos's and Shepherd's cages, Ridge moved over to see the new dogs.
"Hey there kid" Ridge answered, hearing Sophie's tiny hello. "You don't need to be afraid of us, only the people"

Sophie came closer to the door as the others got out of their cages. She could tell she liked this golden brown brute. Right from the start. She gave a soft smile, and nodded. "I don't like them." She remarked, a visible shiver went through the little pup's body, that would have been ammusing if the cause for it was not so serious.

Sophie placed her paws on the cage door and watched the others, her tail moving slowly behind her. She was oddly bold at the same time of being shy. "My name's Sophie." She annouced.

"Ridge" the German Shepherd Lab cross smirked. "And how would you like it if we got you out of here today?"
"I don't know Ridge" Galileo replied, letting the last of the four out of the cage. "They're supposed to start feeding us soon"
"You mean most of us" Ridge growled. "If we're lucky"
The Sarloos wolfhound bounded past the cages looking in at the new dogs, mostly pups and seemed like he couldn't contain himself. He tried to talk but what came out of his mouth wasn't understandable.
"No, we aren't going to fight anyone today" Ridge answered, somehow understanding. "And we're not blowing anything up either. That was a one-time thing"
"BAwww" Trigg moaned.

Sophie's soft and sweet voice let out a giggle as the large dog looked in at her. She tilted her head and gave a concerned look, teal eyes watching Ridge and the other, voiceless dog.

"He can't speak?" The pup's voice was pained.

Sophie couldn't even think of not being able to speak. She didn't pity him, because she was sure he was doing just fine, in his own way. He didn't seem sad, at least. Ridge, he seemed filled with determination and fierceness. The border collie, he was smart, she could tell. Sophie smiled, she didn't like this place, but maybe these guys would make it better.

"Can I help?" She asked, wagging her silky tail.

Ridge shook his head no.
"He can communicate" Ridge shrugged, glancing at the ex-fighting dog with a half amused look. "But you won't need to worry about that"
The fourth dog, a red-brown English shepherd bounded over too, overhearing the conversation.
"Of course you can help!" he replied cheerfully.
Ridge nodded to Sophie's cage and Galileo opened the cage in the blink of an eye. Then Ridge turned to the older dogs.
"Pilot, open the window, Trigg, watch the door, and Galileo, open up the pup's cages"
All three nodded and set to work.

Sophie shook her fur, her whole body moved and she almost fell. She rose her head and smiled. As Ridge gave orders, the pup's head swirved to watch each dog set off to his own task. She took a deep breath, and, since she was not given an order she walked to the side of the german shepherd cross's side. Sophie tilted her head back, white muzzle, lightly dappled with black splotches pointed towards him.

"What should I do?" She asked, teal eyes looking up at his bright blue.

Once everyone was set in place, Ridge grinned at the pup.
"You direct everyone to him" Ridge said, pointing to the English Shepherd balancing on the heater and holding the small window open.
As Galileo the cage doors, Ridge helped the first pups off from the second row of cages and plopped them in front of Sophie.

Sophie blinked at first, unsure of what to do. Then she smiled and nodded, she puffed out her little white chest and waited. With each pup that was let out and brought to her she greeted with kindness like a small little mother. Sophie directed each one to Pilot, and made sure they were not too fightened. Sophie's muzzle hardly changed from the pleasent expression. She wanted to help these puppies! Her brown ears twitched and she looked at the door where Trigg was. Sophie didn't have a good feeling. She shook herself. Trigg knew what he was doing, he'd let them know...

"Come on, he's going to help you get out." Sophie soothed a particular frightened pup who had a limp.

At the door, Trigg crouched, mumbling something in an angry tone. Ridge stiffened up and motioned for Galileo to go back in his cage.
The last of the pups scrambled up and were lifted right out the window. Ridge turned to Sophie.
"Alright, you might want to follow the rest of them out the window" Ridge suggested, glancing from the half-open window to the footsteps that were getting closer and closer to the door.
"We can still save you"

Sophie looked out the window. She didn't have a lot of time to make a choice. She swallowed. She had no where to go, she didn't even know where they were or what was outside that window. She shook her head.

"I can help you. I want to stay." She said with confidence.

Little Sophie didn't know she had just sealed her fate. Her future held a great darkness. Sophie quickly went back to her cage, even though she disliked it. It was cold, and bare. The pup sat down, looking at the others. She smiled to them peacfully. Sophie was already dedicated to Ridge, he was her leader. She knew she couldn't leave. Sophie layed down on the cold metal floor and rested her head on her front legs.
