Okay, well it's no secret that most people hate the "Balto-Drawings" rule that says that a certain percent of our drawings have to be of Balto or one of the characters from a movie...

This isn't asking to completely get rid of it... but a sort of compromise? And this goes for all the sites... especially the Spirit one that asks that half of everything to be of a Spirit character.

Since the fan sites are based on themes, why not make sure that the render, art, etc has the THEME, NOT THE CHARACTER.
-We all love the Balto movies, but everyone eventually gets bored of drawing the same characters.
-There's only so many poses and pictures we can go through before they start to look the same and be "copied".
-As long as the character rendered is involved with an official Balto character or the theme of dog-sledding, we could select something for that instead of the theme instead of a character's profile (maybe a "theme profile" could be posted as a character and could be selected as well?)

And yes I know this is a character fan site, but here's some more reasoning:

1. Everybody loves Balto and Spirit, but it is after all, a fan site, not an obsession site.
2. Part of being a fan of a character or movie can be branching off from them... I think a render or Balto or Spirit's babies could count just as much as a drawing of their parents.
3. We joined this site because we like Balto or Spirit... we shouldn't have to prove that we're fans by rendering and drawing the characters every other render.
4. I still think there should be a Balto drawing every so often, but maybe one drawing/ render for more normal drawings.
5. Making people render and draw Balto to get other characters up can kinda make them hate Balto and main characters of the other fan movies. I've talked to people that have left this site (more then 1) because they've gotten sick of Balto from drawing him too many times.

So although this is a suggestion, maybe it's one that can at least be talked over even if it takes withering my ideas down a bit into something everyone agrees on?

(And I apologize or anyone that agrees with the current rules... maybe I'm the only one that's a bit tired of this rule)

It'd have to be...emphasized more. What's to stop people just drawing their random wolf or dog characters and saying "It lives in Nome and knows Balto so it's related".

I'd think it should be widened to include fan characters of the movie, which would mean a version of Balto & Jenna's pups, a mate of one of the official characters etc.
Something directly related.

Have a tick box in the upload page saying "Is this a directly related to Balto drawing?" (Replace Balto with Spirit, Lion King etc.) and have in brackets after the previous sentence "(Please write in the picture description how this is directly related so moderators know)".

It likely wouldn't stop people bending the rules completely and just making it up on the spot but it'd be a compromise on it having to be an official character only.

I think that sounds like a good idea... the tick-box for characters directly involved with the main characters. but how hard would it be to add something like that?

I'd imagine, so long as Steet had some time to do it, not /that/ hard but then again I'm no coder so I'm just guessing.

But then what would consitute as "directly related?" It's a pretty gray area.

Someone can say "THEY'RE THE GREAT-GREAT-GREAT-GREAT-GREAT-GREAT-GREAT-GREAT-GRANDSON OF THIS ONE DOG THAT APPEARED ONCE IN THE MOVIE!" And technically get away with it.

I actually like the fanart requirement. I prefer art of Balto to art of random OC number 3789462348712087120. You can have your characters, just remember it's BALTO/SPIRIT/LION KING Source. Not Original Character Source, which is what BS is pretty much turning into. I see entire galleries of just lineart colored in to look like the same GSD/husky/wolf everyone else has with maybe one lineart colored like Balto.

Well, if it's a friend of Balto, that I think counts as being related. And I've noticed that people are like, "This is the granddaughter of the mate of the daughter of the great grandson of Kaltag's nephew, so it's related!" And that ticks me off! And yet they get away with it! Lots of famous names on BS or whatever source do that, just to make characters 'cause they can.

Balto characters means any character from the film...But beyond that point, if all they want is sending some dogs/wolves art with no relation to the film, then that's logical they shouldn't do it here. As I said, maybe one day I'll make another site for off-topics drawings, but for now I don't have the resources to compete with Deviantart...So I had to make this choice.
You can still send off-topics fanarts here on the forums :

general-fan-arts-f46.html

You don't understand. If the ratio isn't 1/1, that's ALREADY for allowing some original characters. So there is already a compromise. And if the ratio for BS is different from the newer sites, that's because there wasn't one before and to prevent some people from not being able to send anything else, I will reduce it progressively.

But I'm not asking anyone to post only fanarts, do I? Why feeling the urge to send one every day?
Again and again : I'm asking for QUALITY, not QUANTITY. And if this means limiting what people send, then I'm all for it. I prefer a less active site with quality content rather than a popular site with rubbish content.

Besides, there are lots of other creations types you can send, and other ways you can contribute on the site.
But no : currently, http://www.animationsource.org/ = Balto Source = fanarts...

Is there only one option there?
http://www.animationsource.org/balto/en/send/

Is there only one site there?
http://www.animationsource.org/

And if this isn't enough :
http://www.animationsource.org/balto/en ... 78522.html
