Suddenly there was a loud thump. The hunters stopped their car, to find that they had hit a deer. "Sweet, man this must be our lucky day!!" While they were hooking it to the front of the car, Brady sneaked out of the bushes, and made his way to Zevin. He gripped the chains in his mouth and pulled. One came unloose. He continued, and finally got all the chains off. Then, Brady started with the lock on the door. He suddenly heard the truck starting up again. GO! Zevin shouted, but Brady stayed by his brother, and got the lock off. He yanked open the door, but it was a little too loudly. The hunters Truck jerked to a stop, and the men ran out to the back, but Brady and zevin had already run off. They charged through the woods, but Zevin got caught in another trap. "***** it!" Brady cursed. He swerved around, and bit loose the rope that was holding his brother upside down. Brady grabbed Zevin's scruff and started carrying him deeper into the woods. Brady kept cursing under his breath. Finally, they reached Miranda's house, and they walked inside. Then Zevin heard Brady yelp in pain. Blood trickled down the side of Brady's head. He had gotten shot trying to save his brother.

Zevin hobbled on his three good legs. Miranda licked Brady's wound. "What happened?" she asked. Zevin shook his head, "Ask the oldest." He crawled through the doggy door and walked off. He bumped into two stray wolves. He told them they could get something to eat if they followed him. On the way to the house the two wolves ambushed Zevin and then ran off. ''Never trust a wolf!" Zevin howled. He walked back to the house bruised and beaten. "What happened to you now?" Miranda asked. Zevin looked at her, sighed, then went out to the back yard. He laid down on the patio, watching the grass bend in the breeze.

Brady walked outside to his brother and sat down beside him, letting the cool breeze flow through his fur. "Man, you can't.... Ugh..." Brady heaved out a long sigh. "Please, the race is tomorrow i'll be gone for a while, can you promise me something?" Brady noticed Zevin didn't look up. "Promise me you won't get yourself killed. Kay?" Brady pushed his brother on his back, and nipped his ear playfully, then ran off.

Zevin laughed a little, "Sure thing bro." Zevin didn't know why his brother raced. It seemed like a waste of time.
