Yes, that's "Academy Awards" in the PLURAL sense! Not only has it been nominated for best animated picture, but also for Best Picture, and a multitude of other awards including best original screenplay and some technical awards.
Although, I have to admit that with Up running against films like Avatar, The Hurt Locker, Inglorious Basterds, Up In The Air, District 9, and Precious, I honestly don't think it stands a huge chance of winning. But still, the fact that an animated movie is nominated for best picture... is just huge!
On a related note, the nominees for best animated film are:
-Coraline
-The Fantastic Mr. Fox
-The Princess and the Frog
-The Secret of Kells
-Up
So yeah! Be excited! Even if Up doesn't win best picture, it's still huge that it was even nominated!

This is great, but news that Coraline got nominated... that just ruined it. What a bad movie that was.
But Up! Up was definitely worthy of nomination, in my opinion! Great o hear that it was! It had wonderful animation, not to mention an original plot that was perfectly balanced with reality and fantasy!

hm.. I doubt it would win the Best Picture But i do think it has a good chance! and Most likely Win the Best Animated Picture. Was sucha beautifully made movie. Disney Pixar do good work and this one of their best yet. in my opinion. made me laugh so much and enjoy looking at backgrounds!

Above anything, I'm especially glad that they named very varied kind of films : two stop motion, two 2D animated films, with one being a french one (Yes! The Secret of Kells) and only *one* CGI film! (glad that Dreamwork's horrible "Monsters vs Aliens" isn't nominated for anything anywhere)
Although I know that Up will win everything. (as usual)
