Hey guys, its me, Godzillawolf. What many of you might not know about me is I'm soon going to be going to college to become a high school history teacher. My goal is to make my class fun so people will learn better. I've got ideas, such as enjecting funny facts of triva into my teaching that would be bonus if the students can remember them for the test. I've learned from several teachers I've had over the years, but since there are a lot of teenagers on this site, as well as many open minded adults and possibly even a real teacher or two, I thought I'd ask what you guys think would make a high school history class more fun. I'd be very grateful, as this is my goal. I'm asking now because many of my teachers are willing to try new, fun ideas, so I might be able to not only make my future class fun, but my current one as wel, and maybe help others with my goal tool. So anyone have ideas?

My high school history class is super boring XD So here's what I think would make it more fun:

1. Picking on the popular kids is always funny :D
2. If there would be a quiz or test coming up, do jeopardy or some kind of game the day before to get the kids' mind in gear, and so they'll actually remember to study!
3. It's okay to make jokes, especially if it's about other teachers! (Mean, I know, but gets a laugh!)

I've always wanted to be a horseback riding instructor, so that's a form of teaching, right? Being a teacher isn't always easy, but rewarding? Definitely!

Maybe talk about something they can relate too. Give funny examples. Like when Cuba was supported by the US during their revolt against Spain, our teacher used HILARIOUS examples...XD

(See? I remebered it too! XD)

I have one, don't put up with any rude comments (In example, popular kid to quiet kid) at all, (I don't enjoy those)
And don't punish the whole class because of one student....that's not fun...
I think you'll be a great teacher! Do you know what state you'll be teaching in?

Make it interesting and fun. If it is boring the students would not want to pay attention. And if you make it interesting grades will go up. My favorite class was because of a teacher, US History the hardest course in our high school but I passed with flying colors. I always looked forward to 5th period US History with Mrs. Pasco. I even wrote my college admission essay on her and my college counselor commented on my paper saying it was one of the best we've ever read. Be interesting and fun the students will love you and the grades in your class will improve.

I love my history teachers so

1. If possible try to get to know them personally,if they see that you care about them, they'll want to please you.

2. Teach like it is exciting, if they think you don't like the subject, they won't like it either.

3. Putting in good life lessons while teaching is nice, because we can learn more from history than just history.

All great suggestions! I'll remember them, thanks! One thing is, I'll punish bad behavior with extra homework, like punishment for bullying is a 500 word essay on the most boring subject I can think of. Cheating on a test not only gets you an F, your next test will be a harder one diffrent than the other kids (though you know if a student wants the tougher test, they can have it). Think those will work?

I don't think anyone will be rude in your class. But also, instead of just punishing, try to reward. Like give less homework to those who study hard and are friendly and helpful. But I like you method.

But if the bullies do well on the tougher test, that will help their grade (I have found a flaw in your master plan LOL)

These are terrible ways to punish students. Coming from the guy who wants to be the teacher, that's pretty sad. These things will only breed distrust and ill-feelings toward you as a teacher.

Assigning extra homework for bad behavior is wasteful. Very likely the ones that behave badly don't do a majority of the assignments anyway, so by you assigning more, you also help them deeper into the realm of failing a class. Same goes for the cheater - giving them an F on that test is far enough. They might not do it again, and to hold them back further by giving them a more difficult test is a poor move. That only keeps them from redeeming themselves, which most certainly would NOT be your job.

Well yeah, the cheating thing won't probably work, I think I'll just make diffrent versions of the test, all the same difficulty but not all identical, so its harder to cheat, but I still think extra homework for bad behavior will work at times. However, I will still write up an optional, harder test students can choose to take for extra credit.

But I do have a manner to reward the students for good. I've had teachers do this and its really effective, at least in those classes. For good grades on tests, they'll get some type of fake money which will be redeemable in class for various things, including being able to use notes on a test, being able to study my personal notebook (which I use in lessons and will type and make copies of), and actuel prizes like candy or books, maybe even video games. Now some people might think its a bribe but the duty of school is prepare kids for the real world, well in the real world, you get paid for hard work, so wouldn't it make since to pay students for hard work? Another reward, if everyone in class gets an A on a test, I'll do something silly like dyeing my hair pink or wear some weird suit. Are those ideas better?
