I suspect they made him brown to make him seem less predominant. Notice Steele's black and white coloration is very striking, very eye-catching, and somewhat intimidating, whereas Balto's coloring, not being so stark, has a less aggressive look to it.
And no, I doubt he did it just to win Jenna's love. Steele was in it for glory, there's no question of that. Balto, on the other hand, was concerned about those kids. Notice he repeatedly says things like "Rosie," or "I'm going to help Rosie get better." Granted, Rosie was the most direct route to Jenna's heart, but I don;t think Balto would use a little girl as leverage like that. It's not in his character.

Yep I completely agree with Dragon 100%. If he did do it just to win Jenna over what kind of person would that make him.

Why the makers didn't go with the real colors, I don't know. As for the question of Balto's motives, I think he seemed more concerned about getting the medicine to Nome. Of course, it's also possible that Jenna may already have fallen in love with him before he saved the town. For Balto, winning Jenna's heart may have been an added bonus. I agree. At the very least, Jenna seemed aware that Balto was attracted to her, not like that was any big secret. He definitely wore his heart on his sleeve, as the saying goes. And unlike her attitude towards Steele, she felt reluctant to brush him off. And just minutes after the sled race, she smiled in what she thought was his direction and seemed rather disappointed when he was nowhere to be seen. That's what we know about how it started, before the diptheria got thrown into the mix. And it seems logical to conclude from that information that she may indeed have been attracted to him, if not actually "fallen in love" (thre is a difference). It's not conclusive proof, but it is proof that at least she enjoyed being around him. Add that to her shyness when he smiled at her, and it's pretty darn convincing if you ask me.

I totally agree. But i think that he brought back the medicine because he cared about Rosie. Of course she's connected with Jenna, but if it was only for Jenna's love don't you think it could sound egoistic? Well, this is just my opinion. And about the original Balto's coat colour, wan't it brownish? I know that in black and white photos his coat seems balck and white.

Since the photos are in black and white, who's to say that with out first hand knowledge that he wasn't actually a dark brown? As to why he was different shades in each movie, well that's like asking why did the animation suck more with each sequel? And I agree on both. I don't think that Balto would save Rosie just to win Jenna's love. That's probably why they had the scene where he sees the carpenter who had previously made Rosie the sleek sled, making tiny coffins. My guess is they added that to show how compassionate Balto is.

You're maby right, they had included that scene because Balto needed an reason to go on that lethal saving mission, and on the Jenna case, I don't really think that Balto would do this to win Jenna's hearth, because if Jenna would found out that he would do it for conquering her hearth, than I think that Jenna would yell at her that Balto wasn't better off than Steele.
