Hi,

Wolves play a big part in the new movie Twilight: New Moon, but these magnificent animals have played an even bigger role in Washington state, including its Olympic Peninsula coastal range, the real-world setting of the Twilight movies and books.
We can help restore wolves to Washington! I signed a petition to Washington’s governor urging her to support wolf restoration and I hope you will too. Add your name to the petition online at:

http://bit.ly/2p11Cq

Tragically, the extensive wolf extermination campaigns of the late 1800s eliminated these magnificent animals from the Pacific Northwest -- tearing a gaping hole in the natural balance and cultural tapestry that makes Washington so special.

Now wolves are beginning to return to Washington, dispersing from Canada and the northern Rockies. Washington officials are considering how best to manage these amazing animals and where they should allow wolves to be restored. They need to hear from us!

Let Washington Governor Chris Gregoire know that you support wolves in Washington state -- including the western coastal range! Take action online at:

http://bit.ly/2p11Cq.

Thanks for helping…

Lol...are people just now realizing wolves are returning here? I was excited when I heard of a pack in the Northern Cascades back in fall of 2006...or was it 2005? One of the two.

...Though I wonder if going straight to her house and talking to her would count as a vote on the petition? It would be an action I'm sure that would get me shot! LOL

Lol. Lo, foolish people who think they can change the world! :alien:

Personally, I'm gonna need a better reason to take this action than simply because they were in a Twilight movie... and believe me, we get enough of that as it is already. XD

By the way, wanna compliment you on your plagiarism. The way you just copy and paste with links indicates you've put no effort into this and obviously don't care as much as you might sound like you do. :eye:

Okay, Dr.Rex, I copy and pasted to make sure I didn't get anything wrong, I've personaly called all of my local News Papers, I'm trying to get a group started in my school, and yes one person CAN change the world!Look at Martin Luther King!Abe Lincoln! So don't you dare tell me that one person can't change the world! And no, I'm not even a FAN fo Twilight, I don't even know the stupid werewolf's name, so don't use that against me.I look at you with RESPECT Dr.Rex, but not anymore, and yes I DO know that wolves are coming back, but that doesn't mean Arial hunting isn't going on, so you two and shut your traps and get out of here, you both are very immature for coming here and telling me I'm wrong for saying what I belive in.

I never said you're wrong. I'm saying that I read a news article in the SEATTLE TIMES that wolves had moved into the Northern Cascades. Since then, I haven't heard one peep about anybody trying to put out a petition to protect an already protected species (especially in the state I live is...as in: Washington State...my home just 15 minutes away from North, or South Seattle  ) So I'm just rambling on here, I think it's great you're enthusiastic with the petition, I just find it funny how delayed it is. I mean, there's no date on the petition, but it mentions the new Twilight, so I'm assuming that it's a recently started petition. So far, the only place I know of where aerial wolf hunting is going on, is in Alaska, but then again, I've never really done any research, just heard from word of mouth.

EDIT: I lied, it was 2004, in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. http://www.seattlepi.com/local/180758_wolf05.html

Lolz sorry Alpine, I misread your message is all.But Dr.Rex is wrong to tell me that I'm commiting plagiarism, if I was I would have said I wrote it and I didn't.ANd then he wants to say I don't care, that P***ed me off right there, he has no clue how many hours I've put into this and he appearantly doesn't care that thousands of wolves are being hunted down legally even though they are on the endagered list in most states.

Well, outside of the majority of Canada. And the US states: Alaska, Montana, Idaho and with a specialty permit in Wyoming (available only if you're a farmer, or so I've been told) the endangered species list is acknowledged. At least, that was before 2008, anyways. Any wolves outside of Yellowstone are fair game.

And where I'm coming from here, is that I love wolves. I also love crows and ravens. Where it's legal to hunt these animals, ok...nothing I can really do, but I hate it when hunters kill them illegally, now I've done my share of shooting random animals, except that all the ones I've shot were varmints (gophers, rats, etc.) I have signed a few petitions before, but I'm not sure if they've been very affective at closing hunting down on said animals.

One name can make a difference, and thats understandable why you shoot varmits. And you CAN do something to stop the legal shooting of the Gray Wolf, just sign the potition, everyone says "Not One person can change the world." But one person can, it can happen.

Actually, the whole-sale extermination of wolves in the United States (including Washington) was in the 1930s. Plus, the sightings of the British Colombian wolves who have migrated south are still considered fairly recent. Washington state, like many US states, considers the wolf a protected species. In other words, should you shoot and kill a wolf in that state - you will get punished. Not unlike if you were to say purposefully shoot and kill a bald eagle - a felony.

This means that the state of Washington is /not/ looking to actively hunt wolves in the near and likely distant future. What they are talking about is something completely different. As Alpine said before, wolves have only just begun to return to the state. Thus, the state, in anticipation of a growing wolf population, is considering that, in the future, to downlist the wolf from the endangered to threaten in the state.

Alaska is the state wherein there is what is considered to be a wholesale slaughter (i,e the fairly recent killings of pups from their dens and aerial shooting, which is utterly wrong in my mind - but that's a whole different topic). Idaho and Montana have instituted a wolf hunting season (that is they are hunted in a specific time and place and by specific laws) in reaction to the population increase. Please note that both states heavily rely upon ranching for their economies, and an uncontrolled environment - it could feasibly be bad for those states' economies. Wyoming and Minnesota are, in addition to what Alpine has said, are considering options after the species is delisted. In all cases, the hunts are and would be managed strictly. The likely scenario will probably be similar to the black bear and moose hunting regulations in Minnesota (which I am fairly familiar with) - in which there is a lottery, where people enter during a specific time. Winners will be drawn, and the winners are the only persons in the entire state who can hunt bears.

In other words, it's really nothing to be worrying yourself about. What you can get out of this is that wolf populations are on the rise - and that is great in my mind.

(By the way, while Dr. Rex can be annoying, he is right. Copy-pasting paragraphs such as yours in your first post are plagiarized (it's an easy mistake to do); but next time - put the paragraphs and such that you did not write in quotes. At the end, say something to the affect of info from linkhere.)

Just relax, and be happy that wolves are returning to the lower 48. And by the way, if you're interested on the status of wolves in the United States and elsewhere, check out the following link: http://www.wolf.org/wolves/learn/wow/re ... ed_States/

(Please please please do not think I am talking down to you, I'm just trying to be matter-of-fact)

As I have stated in my first post, they are /not/ going to be doing anything in the near or distant future. There is not a large enough population, for one; and two - they're an endangered species according to the Endangered Species Act in the state of Washington and all the lower forty-eight states (save for Minnesota, Michigan, and Wisconsin - where the species is protected).

If you wish to take action, check out the policies in Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming (being ranching states, they are adamantly anti-wolf). Plus, there is a bill floating around Congress called the PAW act - which would end the aerial slaughter in Alaska. I think your time would be better suited on those rather than Washington, where they are fully protected as endangered species.

Actually, belive it or not I've signed the petition for the PAW act.I've even signed up as a member for PAW and I've about one of the Defenders.org 'Adopt a wolf' plushies, all of the money goes to help the same action PAW is taking.
