Great article. It's not often that you see a fandom be able to look back at it's history in such detail.

It was actually one of the older sites that I first came upon shortly after I became interested in the Balto movies. It was none other than Balto's Boat, and I loved the stories that Cyberwulfe had written, even if they were a little dated. I later found Silver Wolf's Balto page, where I found what is still my favorite story: "Balto: Of Wolves and Men" (it's called Balto Untold on that site, the title I'm giving you is the FF.net title) before finally making my way to Balto Source.

Another thing, I have found a way to get onto the Balto's Boat site without setting off any anti-virus alarms. Instead of using the URL you have, type in: http://boozers.fortunecity.com/elephant/114/balto.htm
It's the same site, just with a slightly different URL, and no virus warnings.

Actually, I found them after discovering Balto in early 2008. I decided to look for Balto fanfiction, and they were in the first few results that Google brought up for me.

I'm actually much newer to the Balto fandom than you think. I saw the movie for the first time in 2005, but I didn't take a serious interest in the fansites until early 2008, with Balto's Boat being the first one I visited. I've really only been a serious fan of the movies for a couple of years, unlike you guys, who have been around for at least a decade.

Even if I had seen Balto when I was younger, I probably wouldn't have been old enough to appreciate all the fanworks, since I was only about seven of eight years old when these sites were opening up.

However, I'm here now, so I guess it's better late than never. I know a good piece of writing when I see one, and a lot of those older stories have brilliant, creative plot ideas that grew from the fact that at the time, there were no sequels to restrict the events after the first movie. Whatever happened after was completely up to the author's imagination.

How about a quick time line so people can skim thorough it quickly instead of block after block of paragraph? Just to accomodate to those types.

Then it's strange that you first visited Balto's Boat, I'm sure that in 2008 Balto Source was the most popular search result in Google, while BB had a low ranking.

Perhaps, but I was specifically looking for Balto fanfiction, not just a Balto fansite. I tried it again today, typing in "Balto Fanfiction" into Google, the results on the first page were: the Balto FF.net archive, followed by the fanfic section of Silver Wolf's Balto Page, then the fanfic section on Balto's Boat, followed by the fanfic archive on Balto Source. That's what Google gave me for that search, honestly.

On another topic, what point do you think was Balto Source's most popular time? Was it near when the site opened or was it closer to the present day?

Apparently Fuke decided to delete the topic regarding the "petition war" after learning I put it in my article. Too bad... A piece of history is gone.

No results for the page on the Wayback Internet Archive. Looks like it's gone forever, although I'm not surprised such a move was taken.

Fluke aka Me did not delete the topic. It has been moved.

Togo are you going to honour my polite request to remove my name from this?
