Do you have any holiday traditions? A favorite movie to watch with your family, a story read by the fire, a game played together? Something that you always think of when you think of Christmas or Thanksgiving or Hanukkah or whatever holiday it may be. A memory you'll cherish forever, and that you want to someday pass on to younger relatives, whether they may be cousins, nephews, nieces, or your own kids? I hope you do. Because I think everyone needs a little tradition here and there, whatever it may be, whether it's decorating a tree or lighting a menorah, sitting down to Thanksgiving dinner or dying Easter Eggs.
I can think of a few of my favorites from a couple of holidays. Some are older than others. Easter, one of my favorite memories growing up was decorating Easter Eggs. I remember my mom would make the dye and we would dip them, and sometimes she got these plastic things with designs on them that would constrict around the shell and fit to it if you dipped it in hot water. I hardly even remember one Easter Egg hunt; I just liked making them.
For Thanksgiving, I started a new one this year that I'd like to continue: popcorn turkeys, covered in chocolate. It's not easy making them by oneself, but once I get the details worked out, they'll become the best group cooking project since Christmas cookies. And of course even if it doesn't work out, there's always dinner with the family.
And speaking of Christmas, I hae a bunch for that. Sitting together watching movies like Small One, A Charlie Brown Christmas, Rudolph (I like the 1998 version the best myself), and The Nativity Story, a recent addition to the list. And after watching them, even while watching them, we talk about them, sometimes for hours at length. Plus of course decorating (setting up a Nativity when you live in an apartment and aren't allowed to plug it in is an adventure, believe you me) and listening to lots of Christmas music (I currently have over 50 songs on my Christmas playlist on YouTube, and I don't have to spend a penny on CDs or downloads).
So what are your favorite traditions? Any holiday, any religion (or none at all). I'd love to hear them. Oh, and an advance notice: I love New Year's Eve as much as anyone, but remember, there are kids present.

One of my family Christmas traditions is that we never open our present's till after dinner (I hate it, especially when they're out all day!).

I love the entire week before Christmas. First, we get our tree set up, and once my dad puts on the lights, he lets my brother and I handle all the other decorations. It a fun thing that we have done every year since I was small.
I also have my birthday on the 20th, just a few days before Christmas. It sure makes putting together a gift list easier because I just make one list and my parents decide which gifts are for my birthday and which will be for Christmas.
Next, there's visiting relatives, which is actually spread across two days. On Christmas Eve, we visit my Grandma (on my dad's side of the family) and have dinner with her and my one Aunt. Then, the next day, we go over to my Grandpa's place (he's on my mom's side of the family), and have a larger Christmas celebration with all my mom's relatives for the whole day.
It's always an exciting week leading up to Christmas, and it's a time that I always look forward to.
