Recently a new Stargate series came out called SG-U, or "Stargate Universe". This spin-off of the original SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis takes place on the ancient ship "destiny". The premise of the show is that a ragtag group of humans that have just survived an attack are stranded on an old ship in the middle of nowhere and are tying to find Earth. Sound familiar? This show seemed eerily similar to the new remake of "Battlestar Galactica". Battlestar was a very good series and nobody can dispute that but it doesn't mean that what made the new Battlestar work will also be good for other shows. To start here's what's pretty similar:
Trying to find earth Drama, drama, drama, drama the first few episodes dealing with things like air, water, food, and power Being stranded on a ship Calling what should be "hyperdrive" in the old Stargate shows is now called "FTL" which is what Battlestar calls it
Even with all of this going against SG-U I felt like it was necessary to give it a shot. And it turned out that the show is wretchedly terrible. What they have tried to copy from Battlestar has not worked in the least bit here. They should have just made more seasons of Atlantis or even SGo-1 if they bothered to listen to the fans. So anyway, it's kind of a debate about how original/good this show is; but I'm sticking to my belief that it's just a carbon copy of a different show.
