Yea, this is a rant about rants. So many of the so-called "rants" in this section fall under a few categories that really never produce a good rant or anything good save for an occasional laugh at the fail of a rant they made.

Art rants:
Well, there 's really no shortage of these, now is there? People will rant about anything art-related here whenever they get the chance. These range from things like stealing, tracing, and just complaining that not every single member either loves your art, has commented on it, or has seen it and given it the attention it deserves and should be put right next to the Mona Lisa.

Sarcastic rants:
This rant pretty much qualifies as this category of rant and I've noticed that it's these kinds of rants that have the right amount of attitude with them also make the best arguments, and aren't all about flaming and proving to the whole community that you have yet to grow up, or might actually be a five-year old in disguise. If you look at the rants with "attitude" most of the time they aren't pointless threads and the attitude helps get the point across; because a fair amount of members here have thick skulls that can be hard to get through to.

"I hate you all rants"
These are when disgruntled members get one last flame in to the site by expressing their hate towards people for so-called "injustices" when they cause their problems for failing to meet the very simple standards of this site in one way or another. They will often use profanity which is not good on this forum because most of the members are not very old, with only a few like myself around the high teens(16-19) and above. They will sometimes also post pornography for whatever reason they have which also does not belong on a forum composed primarily of younger people.

"Not a rant, but I just felt like posting here instead of in a proper section"
There are a lot of these kinds of threads where people will post something in the rant section that does not belong here. What's truly funny and sad is that more often than not they actually admit that they're not posting a rant, yet they do it anyway because I guess it really wasn't worth moving your pointer over to the correct section to post the thread in.

Outright fails:
These are the threads in the rant section that mostly get placed by new members. They literally have nothing to do at all in the rant section or maybe any other section on the site yet they post them without thinking that it might not be the right place.

Of course people do need to rant about things properly here, but that's only the effect. The cause is that people just don't get it here. Before making a thread somewhere you need to ask yourself "is this thread really necessary, and does it belong in this section and not another one?". The root problem seems to be that most people abandon all common sense the moment that they either join a forum no matter whatever previous forum experience they have, or the moment they log onto the internet.

The solution really has to come from within yourself to fix the problem because nobody else can be that voice in your head telling you that "You're doing it wrong!!"(Starfox reference for the win!!).

Although unspoken and unwritten, there is a standard for what constitutes a decent and effective rant. It varies from person to person, but a good amount of users here seem to be on the right page in regards to that standard. If someone falls short (Such as several of the examples you provided), they are told so in a forum-appropriate way most of the time. On the other hand, if the standard is exceeded, then the user is sometimes praised. Quite frankly I am glad that this sort of system exists.

Generally, I concur with what you said, but I'd like to say something about sarcastic rants. Sarcasm can augment a rant well, but shouldn't be used without other other elements. I believe that concrete facts, logical analysis, and opinions based upon both are sort of the "army" of a good rant. Sarcasm is the Special Ops unit. Great in support, but by no means the main fighting force of the rant. If sarcasm is the main force, than I'd assume someone just wants attention.

As to common sense, it's just a rarity in every aspect of life that involves communicating with other people. Our only hope is to do a barrel roll.

Pointless rants: A rant with no real aim or direction in what specifically it is ranting about.

What is this, a broad generalisation and short description of a handful of topics seen in the Rant Board? Without even mentioning why exactly they supposedly drive you to rant about them?

And then only suggesting one possible solution, "fix it yourselves, I want no part of this"? If we did that, the Rant Board would be a cesspool of fail.

"UR DOIN IT WRONG"

Well the problem is mostly the error of the creator(s). It would help if there was a really specific guide for rants so that people know exactly what they can and can not do.

There is no almighty God of the Rant Board. Users should feel free to rant about what's grinding their gears on the site.

*nodes* I agree with Sora-Kun. Just like my ranting topic about only selecting popular artists of the week instead of others.It shouldn't have gotten locked.I wasn't whining about it but I was trying to make a good point

Talking about it is one thing... doing something that can be done is another (although I suggest if you do do so, you get the opinions and advice of other people and mods)

Duplicate rants will be locked if they're reported (to make sure we see them).
