NOW ENROLLING!
This is a FREE service!

To enroll in this program, e-mail [email protected] with your name (first and last, or first name last initial/first initial last name), e-mail address, and a gallery link, as well as an art sample. (See below for more information.)

Please read all of the below information before e-mailing us! It supplies vital information that you must know.

Enrollment

There is no required minimum age to enroll in this academy. Plus, the services are free! The only things required are:

* Drawing utensils – we will not supply these for you. This includes digital, traditional media.
* A current, working installment of Adobe Acrobat Reader, because the files will be saved as .PDF and sent out to “students.” (If they file type doesn’t work for you, let us know and we’ll work out an alternative!)
* A valid e-mail for us to send you the packages.
* A USB flash drive or some other way to save your files in a safe, organized manner.
* A love for all things art!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is this, “Animation Source Academy of Art”?
o The Academy is similar to an advanced art class or college-style class where we, the creators, will “guide” users to better improve their drawings and subject matter quality.

What will the Academy cover?
o The Academy is willing to cover nearly every drawing method – digital coloring and drawing, traditional. Including different subject matter, such as (but not limited to):
- Portraits
- Scenery
- Still Lives

How do I sign up?
o You can sign up for the Academy by e-mailing us (the e-mail is provided on the title page at the beginning of the document) with some samples of your art. Include:
* A maximum of 3 drawings, as well as a DeviantART gallery (or other gallery) link.
* What you like and dislike about your art.
* What you’d like to learn and improve on.

Do I have to be a member of Animation Source to sign up?
o We’d like to keep it that way, yes. But no, it is not a requirement. However, you will still be doing all of these projects through us.

Will we have “Independent” projects, where we pick the subject matter?
o Yes. This also depends on your “instructor,” though, as to what you’ll be drawing and such. You can ask if the material is “restricted content” to find out, or it will be posted in the assignment.

When will assignments be due?
o This varies with the amount of detail. However, you should have a maximum of one week.

How will we be graded?
o Just like in school – quality, instruction, and content. You will also receive a critique on each assignment from your instructor.

Why are we being graded?
o This gives you something to strive for, as opposed to just submitting art to the Academy.

Will there be any “prizes”?
o Yes! With every new package, we will highlight an artist (or artists) of interest, posting with their username/name a piece of artwork that deserves recognition, as well as a gallery link. Some of it will be a sort of newsletter -- where you can submit articles!

Be aware – there may be some assignments for human figure drawing, meaning the model(s) may be nude or completely nude. Do not fret, for you must learn to draw the “raw figure” before you draw the clothed. If you have any problems with this, please, let your instructor know. (Though it may be unlikely of this happening.) Keep in mind that no images will be pornographic or suggestive!

We are here to offer you, an artist in seek of help, instruction and “tutoring.” If at any point you’d like to withdraw yourself from the program, you may. You will not be removed by your instructor unless you steal! If you have any other questions or concerns, please, e-mail us at the e-mail address supplied above.

All artwork supplied by the instructors is copyrighted © to them. You may not replicate or steal that image in any way, shape, or form unless it has to do with the assignment. Even then, you must credit the instructor as the owner. Anyone found stealing will be withdrawn from the program.

Artistic Contributors and their Field(s):

Awesome!! I just have a few questions...

- How many "students" do you plan on enrolling? Is space limited?
- How long does the program last?
- What are the mediums you'll be teaching? [pencil drawings, tablet-based, watercolor? etc.]
- How will "lectures" be set up?
- Will we have a "final exam?" ^_^

- As of right now, there is no "ceiling" on to the amount of "students" that can enroll.

- The program will last until the "student" feels comfortable enough to stray away, going out "into the world." I will keep it running as long as possible!

- Since I am the only "instructor" as of right now, I will be teaching traditional mediums (things one draws by hand.) Students can either scan their pictures or, if not available, take (macro) photographs of them.

- The lectures will be set up similarly to the set-up Enrollment Information above -- PDF format. I will explain everything as simply and as interestingly as possible, including pictures for each "lecture."

- Nope! There will be no tests unless someone asks for a "heavy project," which will be a full-detail project, for practice.

Sweet. So, who else do you think might be interested in teaching?

A couple have members have expressed interest in showing the project to their school art teachers -- and I asked that they ask the teacher if s/he would also like to submit to the project themselves.

I plan on contacting Lyanti (if she has the free time) on DeviantART, DrewtheWolf, Akreon/Tanathe, down-onthe-upside on DeviantART, as well as local art teachers in my area.

1. What qualifications (of a professional teaching level) do any of these people have (other than these teachers you mentioned you'd be asking)?

2. Do you really suppose that the actual professional teachers are going to involve themselves in such a project (especially something which purports to being called an "academy", which presumes certain professional qualifications of its staff), especially gratis?

3. What qualifies any of these non-professionals as experts in their field? Enough to presume to be teaching anyone the finer points of art?

4. How do you plan to clarify, with absolute certainty, that any grades and projects they will be assigned (and any changes in policy regarding "tests" and "exams" down the road) will be of no consequence against any desire, by the "students" to seek professional art employ thereafter, or sometime in the future?

1.) Most of the other artists I'm asking have attended art school in college, and know how that "branch" would work, and have some sort of skill that I've observed the Animation Source users to desire.

2.) The "instructors" may not be willing to work for free. This is an art support for artists looking for just that -- support with their art. I'm not sure about teachers from around the country, but my local art teacher is, in fact, willing to work for free if it involves helping another artist improve (which she's done with students in my school long-graduated or not enrolled in her classes). I chose to call it an "academy" as it's a sort of uniformed "school" for artists, not a literal academy.

3.) Given there may be no certifications such as a teaching certificate, Master's or even Associate (which I'm in the processes of getting right now), as I said above these artists know a certain skill that artists on Animation Source would like to learn. (Again, an observation from posting my art on the site, and comments I've received as well as other artists.) People have gone to these artist (whether involved on Animation Source or not) in search of critique or help, especially with detail and/or anatomy, which is what I expect to aim for (as well as broadened subject matter, not just wolves or lions).

4.) This is a sort of in-your-free-time project. They can't take instructor critique to a college and say, "I attended this academy online," because it's not a real credential and obviously not a real class or school. In that same enlightenment, I can't interfere with any sort of application or such they put into a college or place of employment. My goal is to make them better prepared (as much of the art on Animation Source, I regret to say, won't get them into an art career) for what they're going to face in art school and classes. (But one must keep in mind that all schools and employment areas in life are different, and in this "academy" I'm generalizing by basics.)

What kind of skill do you want for teaching ?

I went in two art schools (the first was rather a classical art school and the second an animation school) but i don't know if i have the skills people desire...

I want people to learn more about composition, anatomy, background, and shading/detail. I'd be more than happy if you could jump aboard and give me a hand, sharing any tips/"lessons" you may find well-fit for any artists.
