Who is your favorite President of the United States and why?
You can answer 2 in the poll because myself, I'm having a debate with myself on Thomas Jefferson and Ronald Reagan
Thomas Jefferson had wrote the Decleration of Independance and was a major impact the Constatusion. He beleived in limited government and Capitalist individulallity. His ideas were one the reasons why America became so great.
Ronald Reagan was in my opinion the last good President in American history so far. After Carter's term was over, that literally destroyed the American economy in the 1970s and very early 80s, Reagon took power and the economy sky-rocketed. In the election of his 2nd term, EVERY SINGLE STATE, exept Minnasoda voted Reagon back to power. Reagan constantly wanted the indavidual to rule the nation and always made sure that governement was limited. and one of my personal favorite Reagan quotes: "Man is never free unless government is limited."
So who's YOUR fovorite President, if he is not up here, just say who he is and I'll count it as a vote.

I never liked ANY of the new preisdents, So I go for the oldies. I admire Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt. (Out of all the history I've read, I always loved reading on what they did. I just loved how they persevered. ) I don't really like what Obama (Please don't flame Me. ) is doing when he could be going for "Need Deal with now" things, and I never really paid attention to President Bush. The two I admire are because of their actions.
My opinion.

Washington is my favorite. He understood that the party system would do nothing more than bring problems and stalemates, and he was right.
After that, probably FDR. His policies of the early 30s saved a lot of people from much worse fates during the Great Depression.

#1: George Washington
Commander in Chief of the Continental Army and marched against the British to assure the independence of the young United States. Persevered and kept his army in tact even through those harsh months at Valley Forge. During his presidency he had to deal with the conflicting views of Mr. Madison and Mr. Jefferson but was able to keep everything together. Gave the shortest speech of any president - no words were spoken - and the angry crowd turned away, ashamed.
#2: Franklin Delano Roosevelt
Saw the United States through the Great Depression, and saw it through most of the second World War, and kept us all hopeful of victory in Europe and in the Pacific. Talked to the people as if they were right next to him, his equal. Who knows if the Soviets would have aided the Allies if FDR wasn't there. Winston Churchill hated Joseph Stalin, but FDR was able to make compromises that kept Stalin happy, or at least remotely satisfied. Enough to remain part of the Allied forces.
That said, I will always hold a certain appreciation and pity for former president George W. Bush. When the World Trade Center fell, it was the first time that the United States had been attacked on its own soil since the Japanese bombed Pearl harbor on December 7, 1941. That is over sixty years. There were no readily available precedents on what to do if the nation was attacked. He was walking across a rickety bridge at midnight with nothing to light his way, so to speak. Targets were identified, and they were hunted down. He helped to avenge those deaths on 9/11. Very likely many terrorist attacks were averted because of the invasion of Iraq, because we established a front in the terrorists' own homeland, diverting their attention to their home front. People call him a crappy president but laid their heads on their pillows knowing that they'd probably be safe, and that their loved ones would be safe, perhaps unknowingly that some of those decisions made allowed for that kind of comfort and security. The troop surge worked and achieved what it was designed to do, which is probably why criticism for that is hard to come across. People can diss him as they will, but one thing is for certain: the country never saw another attack on its soil during his presidency. But unfortunately that counts for virtually nothing this day and age. Very unfortunate indeed.
Edit: Lincoln and Reagan, from what I know of them, were also wonderful presidents. It's truly difficult to decide the top two.

I protest the exclusion of such luminaries as Millard Filmore, James Buchanan, and Rutherford B. Hayes.
Also, William Henry Harrison's presidency was marked by an all-time low in corruption and war.
Go W.H.H!

I don't have a favorite President (given that they all have and had negative qualities) but given the topic, and given the general topic matter of the site (nature, wolves, wilderness etc) - I'm just gonna say Theodore Roosevelt, who was a trailblazer in conservation.
Gotta say I'm surprised not to see John F. Kennedy, James Madison, Woodrow Wilson, and Dwight D. Eisenhower included.

Go W.H.H! Do you mean John Tyler? Harrison died after about thirty days in office. Tippecanoe and Tyler too.

No, I was merely being snide. Harrison, seeing as how he died 30 days in, didn't have much time to be corrupt or start wars. Thus, one of the most corruption-free and conflict-free administrations ever.

However, I'll give the benefit of the doubt and move this topic to the appropriate place for the moment.
Topic moved. Was that meant to imply that it would because of me? Because it won't. I have no problem whatsoever with Medic. In fact, he and I have had some good conversations in the recent past. All I said was that it was in the wrong place, and that it had nothing to do with either Balto fan fictions or Balto game books. In spite of the usual way things unravel on this site, Swords, try not to jump to conclusions about what may happen simply because I'm involved. On the other hand, if it's just because it comes down to people choosing their most favorite U.S. president, I still think that you're presuming a lot. That all being said, I voted. Abraham Lincoln...the greatest president the United States ever had...to date. As far as I am concerned, Ronald Reagan would come in second (the second choice I proudly made), and Theodore Roosevelt third...in my book. *(You did leave several potential choices out of this, Medic. Why?) No, I didn't say that because of you, or any one person, for that matter. I said it because of the nature of the topic itself. I know from experience that talking about what presidents one likes (not to mention favorites) can turn into a heated argument. I'm not saying it will, I'm just saying that it's possible. I'm just trying to advise others to be careful to keep this topic flame-free. That's all. Anyway, carry on.
