Bouncing Through Time
Chapter 1: The Portal
Duke Igthorn paced impatiently in Castle Drekmore’s throne room. Besides his usual attire, he wore what most sane people would think of as a ridiculous looking red robe and golden crown as if he were going to be king any second now.
“Toadie tries very hard to please but what does Toadie get for reward?” The speaker was an ogre, small in stature and green in color. His pointed ears reaching above Igthorn’s waist in height. “Cheated, abused, overworked, under loved, mistreated and made fun of once too often!”
It was Spring and the Gummiberry bushes were in full blossom. Picking gummiberries was something that the bears of Gummi Glen took very seriously and anyone caught not helping with the harvest i.e. Tummi and Sunni, could expect a harsh reprimand from Grammi or Gruffi.
Everyone needed to pull their weight because Grammi was in no mood for protests. It was imperative that those berries be in her kitchen for cooking that afternoon.
Gruffi, Cubbi, Sunni and Zummi downed their juice and bounced away. Duke Igthorn tripped over his own feet as he attempted to grab them.
“Blast! They’re out of reach!” he cursed. Behind the Duke, stood an ogre army of all different colors ranging from orange and yellow to green and purple.
“Don’t just stand there, oatmeal brains! Get those meddling Gummi Bears!” Igthorn barked, pointing to where they fled. The ogres nodded at the command and did as they were told, with none tripping out of sheer stupidity.
Zummi scrounged around for a spell to use against the three ogres chasing him.
“Hey chuckleheads! Over here!” The ogres stopped in their tracks and turned to see the owner of the voice. Another Gummi! They sure to get bonus. That is… if they catch him.
“Get that one now, you dolts!” Igthorn yelled.
The ogres turned their attention to Gruffi, giving Zummi a chance to get to safety. He just hoped Gruffi and the others could escape.
Two orange ogres had Sunni cornered. She backed up, fidgeted, and looked around for escape. They both made a lunge for her and missed, conking their heads together and passing out. She smiled and trotted away merrily.
Another pair of ogres were in pursuit of Cubbi who was slyly looking at a bee’s nest. He climbed up an oak tree and with one swing of his wooden sword, it came crashing to the ground sending out a swarm of bees from the ruins. The ogres caught sight of it and ran away in panic.
