This is at the very beginning of Cra'shun's story
Every story has a beginning, every legend, a start, and every hero, a first failure. Many stories you hear tell you only of the glory and the triumph of heros and legends. This tale won't be like that.
No, this tale will contain the truth. It will tell of the failures, the successes, the defeats, and the victories of the legendary vampire Cra'shun. It will tell about his rise from a common townsboy to a hero.
These days, Cra'shun is famous for slaying the monsters of Kebeth, for braving the wild forests of Solde, and many things beside. But those aren't the important affairs in his history; at least, not the truly important ones.
Those truly important affairs, those that made Cra'shun what he is, are not the feats of his strength, but the feats that created that strength.
Cra'shun's story is not all triumph and greatness; no hero's is, because victory isn't the thing that makes a hero a hero. To understand why he, or any other hero, is the legend they are, you need to start at their beginning.
