Whisper panted as her paws beat the grass below her. She raced around one side of the large herd of sheep, nipping gently at their legs if they dared to stray away from their herd. She stopped to watch one run back to it's herd, following it into a large area fenced with metal. She smiled to herself, tongue lolling out of her mouth. Her work was done for the day.
She looked up toward where the farmer now rode away on his horse and decided not to follow them. She glanced over at the sheep and was glad to see that they had calmed down and had begun to graze. Whisper laid down facing the sheep, she rested her head on her paws to watch them. As she did, she recalled hearing coyotes howling nearby the night before and figured it was a good thing that she had stayed with the sheep. Sleeping on her own out in the feild wouldn't be too bad.

Carlos popped his head out of the window of his masters car feeling the breeze hit his fur hard. Carlos sighed as he rested his head on the window cill, He soon spotted a barn up ahead knowing it would be his new home for who knows how long. The truck came to a hult and Carlos jumped out of his seat and out the window searching around his new home. He never was one for the farm life and figured this wouldn't be fun but he'd give it a shot anyway.

Whisper's mind wondered as she lay watching the sheep. Her ears pricked slightly when she remembered Trigger saying something about new dogs. He thought he'd heard the farmer say something it his wife about a neighboring property being sold. Trigger had assumed of course that the new people would have a dog to help work the farm. She lifted her head and looked around, not remembering if Trigger had said anything about when the new dog or dogs would be coming.
She glanced at the sheep, they weren't doing much. Whisper suddenly started feeling very bored. She needed something to do. I could go see if the new people and dogs are here yet. She thought, then wagged her tail. That would ease her bordom for now.
Whisper stood up and glanced around, scanning the horizon. She noticed a dark shape, not far away. It was a neighbor's barn, she'd been to it before but nobody had ever lived in it. Maybe that was the property that had been sold.
Deciding that was it, Whisper took off at a sprint for the barn. She had been a bit tired before, but now her energy had returned as she wondered who she might meet.

Carlos yawned as he walked around the farm area, he started to wander out further in the feild. His ears perked up to the grass moving quickly and it sounded like it was heading for him but he ignored it and laid down in the feild. Hearing it come closer caused him to stand up and run towards the sound he popped out of the grass tackling whatever it was after him. He looked down and saw a beautiful collie on the ground under him. Carlos blushed lightly getting off of her" I appologize miss.." Carlos smiled nervously trying to make the best impression he could.

The last thing Whisper had expected was to be tackled to the ground, and the first thought that ran through her mind was Coyote. When the weight left her, she scrambled to her paws and turned to face her attacker, hackles raised. Instead of a coyote though she saw a dog standing before her, she couldn't tell what breed, but he was pretty good-looking. She felt her hackles lower was she blushed lightly.
"Oh, hi." She managed awkwardly in a southern drawl. "A-are you okay?" She asked, still a bit stunned.

Carlos blushed alittle" Yeah.. sorry about that i thought someone was spying on me.." Carlos got off of her and helped her up" Names Carlos.. and you are..?"

"Sorry for surprising you." She said, though she had been pretty surprised herself. "My name's Whisper." She added in response to his question. "Do you live here?" She asked looking up at the barn she'd been running toward.

Carlos smiled and nodded" Yeah my master decided to move here.." Carlos fallowed her up towards the barn" My master is getting some crop and stuff shipped in the next few days and i should have to work by then.."

Whisper's tail wagged. "Really? What's your job?" She asked, excited by the topic of work. "I'm a livestock herder, I'm also suppos' to protect the farm if coyotes show up."

Carlos smiled at her" Sounds pretty important.. i guess thats simmilure what im suppose to be doing to.." Carlos blushed alittle in embarressment" To be honest my master hasnt' told me what my job is yet so im just guessing here.."

Whisper nodded. "Yeah, that's almost all there is for us dogs to do, but it's pretty fun!" She said happily. "So, do you stay in the house when you're not working?" She asked.

Carlos looked back and noticed his master already working on putting up a dog house" Probably not.." Carlos rolled his eyes and smiled at her" He wants to live the farm life meaning us dogs stay here outside in the cold.." Carlos chuckled alittle" Not sure what else there is to do to be honest i didn't want to come here.." Carlose looked at her and grinned" But im kinda glad i did.."

Whisper glanced over at the doghouse as well. "Same here, but my friends and I sleep in the barn with the animals most of the time. Sometimes sleeping under the stars is just too fun to resist." She said with a giggle. Her tail wagged at his next statement. "I'm glad you like it here so far." She replied. "Why would you not want to live here though?" She tilted her head curiously.

Carlos smiled she obviously didn't really understand what he ment but none the less he was alittle happier now that he had a friend to hang with" I thought it would be empty here you know nothing to do.. but now that i've met someone i can see there will be plenty.." Carlos grinned playfully at her.

Whisper smiled back. "I guess you're the only dog here then? That's gonna be a lotta work." She said wagging her tail. "I'll keep you company since you may get lonely." She added.
