I don't really understand how we could really determine how many dog years even by watching how time affect them. Actually, human years only exist for "administrative use" and because we somehow need to know "where" and "when" we live, but a year is not really "a human year". I mean, if we take a look at human life, we can see clearly that time doesn't affect a child the same way it affect a 30 years old adult.

Well, it's just my opinion but I still don't understand why people feel the need to know "how old" their animal is... I guess we could just say that a 1 year old dog is an adolescent while a 2 years old dog is an adult. :D

And I think I read somewhere that some breeds actually grow up faster than others... does it change the rule ?
And what about cats or fishes ?

Just linking up to Whiskey's post It's known that a pure breed dog lifespam is shorter than a mutt, it is somewhat true so how can anyone say that a dog is a age when another will have a shorter life than what that dog has just had.

It may be true what you have heard about dog years, to add up to the same about of lifespam of a human if added up correctly. All it is saying in my mind is that "oh this dog is such age with makes it this age if added up in the human lifespam" either way the dog still has as much of a good lifespam as any other animal. Its all to keep a recorded on how long something will live for before its time comes, they all vairy.

Well, I just thought this could be alittle fun fact for people trying to pick an 'Age' for their character.

I've heard it depends on the size of the dog. 7 is usually a good benchmark, but it depends on what factor you're using to calculate the 'years'.

1 year in humans is 12 in dog years, thats why they live till a varied nember after 10 human years, thats why they don't out live us cuz 1 year of ours there 12 years ahead, basicly a month is a year in dog years.

From a biological POV
Every Dog ages differently, mainly depending on the size.
Large dogs tend to age faster then a smaller dog.
That's why we have Newfoundlands passing away at 7years
and Chihuahuas living over 15 years.
The technically and worldwide used is
First two years of a dog's life *Humans* is 7 per year.
And every year after that is 4 years.
This was changed from the previous one year = 7 years for dogs
since they were being aged much too fast. Or so they say.
Animal Planet was the first to say the 7 and now they keep changing, as does everything
so it's not really reliable.
But again, it varies on dog and dog breeds, ex. Great Danes mature much later then other dogs.
It could take them up to 3 years to mature.
