JerseyCaptain wrote: Yeah...this is not really a typical JerseyCaptain kind of a rant ( ) as it is a question reflecting my bewilderment over this particular issue I'm about to identify... ...er, setting aside - for a moment - the utterly ridiculous monthly name changes members (mostly younger ones) engage in, and the seemingly strange and inexplicable ones they come up with (to mention nothing of all the other sorts of cornball behavior which goes on here on the Source), there is one naming characteristic which seems to appear from time to time, and for the life of me, I can't figure out what the heck it's all about. I'm talking about members (mostly kids it seems) who put a period mark after their name, as in "name." I've seen that with increasing regularity of late, and I juuuuuuuuuuuuuuust don't get it. Nope. Not at all. It makes no sense whatsoever. Not a shred. Maybe the answer's pathetically simple. It may be no biggie. Or there may be NO answer to this peculiar phenomenon. I'd sure like to settle that little thing in my mind though, because, like some of the other odd behavior on this site, it's throwing me for a friggin' loop. Can someone enlighten me? Or is there simply no rational answer? 'Cause Seppy is über confus-ed. 'Kay? Mm'yeeaaah... Well,to be truthful, members choose a name, then after three months of it,grow tired of it,and feel the need to change it,but now it's getting beyond even me why they do it,yes, even I'm seeing NO point in it.

Well I imagined you might be able to shed some light as to why...? Truthfully I don't know why this occurs. I suppose it may be because a name is already taken, and the name with the period registers as a different name to the site. But that can't be the reason for all of the happenings. The least that could be done for visual sake is to follow that rule 'what you do to one side, do to the other'. Such as, instead of name, .name. . It's more visually appealing than name. . I've also seen things like Xx Name xX with the mirror effect adding emphasis. But the period at the end doesn't do much as far as visuals go, so it could be just another attempt to achieve popularity on their part, I suppose. Some of those attention-seeking individuals were never to bright anyways.

I don't know why. I don't like changing my name [and nor do I plan to] But this is getting annoying. I can name a few members who will deleat their acount and make another just to get a new username. It's getting rather hard to know who's who. I think it's just to get attention.

Well since its normally among younger members, perhaps they're trying to be grammatically correct by adding a period to the end of their name like a sentence? Might seem stupid but people sometimes make a big deal of correct grammer on this site so that might be the reason.
As for me, I used to be called Kendell on this site, a nickname my ex-girlfriend gave me, but I changed it because people kept thinking I was a female, which got a little annoying, so I simply changed my name to a more musculine sounding name to avoid that confusion as well as make it more fitting for me in general. I'm a huge Godzilla fan and wolves are my fourth favorite animal, that and this site is about Balto, so it makes sense. So perhaps part of the reason some members change their name is due to their names causing gender errors like mine did.

Though a possibility, I don't think it's the reason. Besides, grammatically speaking, one word is not a sentence. You can't really fault people for assuming you were a female if you have a female username. (Not to say you are, just throwing it out there.) That said, it's a fairly legitimate reason to change your name.

IF there WAS a way to identify someone on the web, this sort of problems would be solved quickly. But (fortunately or unfortunately?) that's not possible, so : I can't really prevent people from changing their names constantly / choosing weird names. I think the ones doing this are little kids, who like doing this because that seems fun to them. (taking different identities...) As long as they behave well...that's the main matter, to me.
But seriously...stick with your member name.

I see now. There are some Unusual names, like "joejonasluver[number]" and XxShaynexX, XxShadnexX" And all of that. But there is nothing you can do about it unless you want a limit on what kind of usernames there can be.

JerseyCaptain wrote: (though that would be wonderful) Lol, a lot of people with those types of names would hate you. JerseyCaptain wrote: I just find them to be immature, idiotic, and irrational. Well, some of those names are like that, because some like "Emily" "Cupcake" "Kohaku" [and all of that] are taken. And about the taken names, it rather Annoys me that some members are inactive and people who are active have to change their name because of that. But back on topic, you'll find names like these anywhere. Especially on Youtube.
