Opinions Recently, on this site’s main part and the forums, I’ve been watching more recently in the past few months, and I’ve noticed how people are starting to react to other’s opinions. Maybe it shouldn’t be even called reacting - It’s more like, ignoring, proving wrong. And I’m just tired of it. [I try to not make rants] But now I just want to get my say out there.
On this site, I ALWAYS Try to put more meaning into my words if it’s on something flammable. But people seem to not know the meaning. The first incident was after Michael Jackson’s death, a few 20 minutes later in the shout box and after everyone that had been there before had already discussed that MJ was dead. 20 minutes later, a few other members came in, and said “MJ’s dead?” And the members that had been there before [not all but the ones I was specially watching] replied to them rudely by : “ We already knew that, DUH. ” and with a Roll-Eye icon. [It CAN make a lot of comments RUDE. ] NO. That is not the way to go about, they might not have known about the death of the singer until later, they might have been busy working, their sick great-grandmother could have just died, and they want to talk about something and someone tells them down just for finding out something Later? No. You might just as be rude as some bully at school. _____________________________________________________________________________________
The second incident, was something over a book. And this time I had forgot to specially “Code” my words. The member got a little hissy Still- No. I honestly think this is really important right here listen up : Just because someone doesn’t put the word opinion in their statement, it stills means it’s their opinion. Yes. That is true. It’s what separates me from Susie and Joe and Billy-Bob. o·pin·ion
o·pin·ion [? pínny?n] (plural o·pin·ions) n 1. personal view: the view somebody takes about a certain issue, especially when it is based solely on personal judgment Example :In my opinion it’s all a waste of time. 2. estimation: a view regarding the worth of somebody or something EX : They had a pretty low opinion of me. 3. expert view: an expert assessment of something EX : I told the doctor I wanted a second opinion. 4. body of generally held views: general assessment, judgment, or evaluation EX :pundits and other opinion formers 5. law conclusion of fact: a conclusion drawn from observation of the facts
And honestly, I don’t want to make sure I specially code my words 24/7 And how do you code you say? I honestly don’t like that book, I think it’s pointless. I don’t like that book. I don’t like that band. I don’ t like that movie. The words “I “ and “ Think “ are the most important words here. They still mean “My opinion” I hope I don’t have to put a quote from a dictionary for “I “ and “Think” Heck, soon if people don’t pick up on these clear hints people should just throw in opinion in there for no reason. _____________________________________________________________________________________
These are the two most important incidents I thought I would use as examples. I know that these things happen.. I’m just honestly sick of it.

Yeah, I agree with you. Haven't been on the site in a while to see what your talking about, but if people are treating others like that here is not what I'd call acceptable. Why can't we just respect other opinions/views? Is it that hard?

You bring up several good points, Kohaku. I don't have much to say about the shoubox incident because that seems like fairly regular stuff. Kohaku Zero wrote: I honestly think this is really important right here listen up : Just because someone doesn’t put the word opinion in their statement, it stills means it’s their opinion. Yes, indeed it does. However, some people speak with a rhetoric which puts forth their opinion as if it was an undeniable fact. I know that I have been guilty of this before, and likely will be in things to come. Kohaku Zero wrote: o·pin·ion [? pínny?n] (plural o·pin·ions) n 1. personal view: the view somebody takes about a certain issue, especially when it is based solely on personal judgment In my opinion it’s all a waste of time. This kind of ties into what I said above. The 'code', as you have described, is useful for avoiding argument and pride fights. If you readily dismiss your views to be opinion, someone is less likely to take offense. But if someone puts forth a lot of pride in what they say, such as "This book is so true to life it's not even funny!", that's an argument magnet. As opposed to "I think this book offers good insight on how to live life." This statement is all the more difficult to argue with, as it is nicely worded and un-provocative. I believe this this 'code' is a safety mechanism of sorts for avoiding arguments, but still getting your point across. I sometimes use it, and other times I don't. If you don't want to use it, that's your decision. But it is there as a viable option.

[And I don't know why honestly. ] I quoted that from a dictionary, so it must be "offical" or else it's no better than my definition for it.

On this site, sadly, wording your sentences correctly is key to preventing any sort of fight. Alot of the members here take what people say as a personal attack. Is the attitude like that due to the majority of the members being pre-teens to teens? Maybe, maybe not, because as I've stated many, many times in the past, it's not always age that determines maturity. (Key words : "Not always")
However, there is a different way to look at the quick to react nature of some BSers. Think about it this way : On a site where the majority of people are in fact rude, is it really all that crazy to assume that someone is actually being rude to you on here? But, some people do snap over well stated opinions that don't even mildly point in the direction of offensive. So, it's hard to generalize and judge.

Just the typical Balto source. You have to be so very careful what you say, or you regret it.
Though I think age and maturity has alot to do with it. Alot of the members here are younger kids or teens (like myself.) I'm not saying that all teens are immature.

Well, I'm a teen to and I try to respect others opinions without blowing up into a fight like the typical stereotype. But I suppose there will always be people on here that will in fact start a fight.

Member: OMG TWLIGHT IS DA BEST Member 2: OMG TTLY Sora-kun: I didn't particularly like the book. Here is why. (goes on to list reasons rationally) Member: OMG SHUT UP U FLAMERS! Member 2: YA IMMA REPORT U!!!!111!!balto11!! I have seen the dumbest crap taken as flames when really they were stating an opinion. I'm contributing my side to the discussion. If you didn't want people with opposite opinions coming onto your thread, then go join a forum for whatever it is you're posting (Twilight, Jonas Brothers, whatever you kids think is hip nowadays, etc.) I love Balto Source because even people who don't like Balto are allowed to join and as long as they're rational, say why they don't like it. I've seen other forums where they ban you for even THINKING that (fill in the blank) isn't the best thing since sliced bread. You should be appreciative Balto Source doesn't charge you with thought crimes and let people speak.

I agree, these people are annoying, but One of the biggest problums is this: People want other people to think they're cool, So They thing snapping off is the cool thing to do Well guess what, smoking was too until they found it caused cancer, I think if people just got over trying to be the 'coolest on the site' theyre wouln't be such a problum. Another thing is On a rant topic someone will say...(Example) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Blahblahblahblahblah Someone stole my char and gave a name that ryemed and reported me for stealing blah blahblahblahblah
Person 1: OMGEEE I TODALLY LYKE SAW THAT! THAT PERSON IS MY BFF AND YOU LYKE TODALLYEE STOLE!!!
Person 2: WELL LIKE, MABEY YOU DID STEAL!!!!!!!!!11 HOW DUH WE KNOW YOU DIDN'T DO IT!!!!
Person 3: Um....That's alittle harsh, don't you think? *Quotes person 1* Um...woud she/he tell on himself?
Person 2: OOOMMMGEE I WAS LIKE JUST STATING AN OPION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I see ALOT of people doing that too, but I get what your saying, and no, people don't accept opions....

Along with someone trying to prove they are right and the other is wrong- Don't be hissy about it. And yes, Zappy's Thunder wrote: Person 2: OOOMMMGEE I WAS LIKE JUST STATING AN OPION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
People /do/ use their opinion as an excuse to be rude. It's rather sad.
