(Sorry, couldn't find anything with the USA, if anyone can help provide, thanks)Dear members,
broadband and internet companies are offering guaranteed speeds of around 8Mbit/s to 10Mbit/s, but can we really trust them? UK Communications regulator OfCom revealed that what they promise, is nothing like what they get, here is the table:
ISP and package Average speed
AOL Broadband (‘up to’ 8Mbit/s)
3.3 to 3.9Mbit/s
BT (‘up to’ 8Mbit/s)
3.8 to 4.2Mbit/s
O2 (‘up to’ 8Mbit/s)*
4.1 to 5.1Mbit/s
Orange (‘up to’ 8Mbit/s)
3.8 to 4.5Mbit/s
Plusnet (‘up to’ 8Mbit/s)*
3.8 to 4.9Mbit/s
Sky (‘up to’ 8Mbit/s)
4.0 to 4.7Mbit/s
Talk Talk (‘up to’ 8Mbit/s)
3.8 to 4.6Mbit/s
Tiscali (‘up to’ 8Mbit/s)
3.2 to 3.7Mbit/s
Virgin Media(‘up to’ 10Mbit/s)
8.1 to 8.7Mbit/s
with the closest telling the truth
Virgin Media, known for also having the UK's fastest broadband speed of 50Mbits/s, ignoring that, I find these figures horrible, since I use AOL, the second the worse one on the list, I feel... Should I say, scammed at the fact I'm receiving a maximum of 6Mbits/s, but during peak hours, around 4, that's half the speed I pay for (
Source of Information: Broadband Speed Checker). So, what do you think? Are we being conned? Should we be charged less? Should companies be more honest?
Please give your thoughts and opinions.
Best regards,
Conay.
