Hi everyone !

I've read a lot of mistakes on cat breeds on this forum and on the Internet. Most people want to know what breed their cat is. And if you're one of them and want to ask this question, I know the answer : your cat is an alley cat.
Unless it has a pedigree, a cat is considered as an alley cat or a mix. People can tell you that what it look like but not what it is. Most alley cats look like a pure breed cat but aren't.

Calico is not a breed either. If someone want to sell you a 'pure breed calico", they are lying.
ANd it's exactly the same for Tabby cats.

Calico and Tabby are coat colors.

A calico cat is a tortoiseshell cat with white patches. Tabbies are stripped and dotted cats. There's more than one breed that allows those coat colors.

The first one looks like any European cats. The second one has the head of a British Shorthair.
The two others are very close to the Novergian and the Maine Coon (perhaps a mix ? or a purebreed Maine Coon). They probably have ancestors that are/were these breeds but if you don't know their parents you can't be 100% sure.

As for the colors. You are right, the first one is a tabby. A black broken mackerel tabby to be exact.
The second one is bicolor (blue / white). Grey cats are always called blue I think.

The third seem to be a bicolor too. Brown (or black ?) and white. Actually, it could be a calico has you said but I don't see clearly her colors. Calico are tortoiseshell so they have red pacthes (orange) and another color (usually black, sometimes chocolate -brown- or blue -grey). Calico have white patches too.
They can be tabby by the way.

The last one is a tabby too. You can see a "M" on its forehead and the strips on its tail. Seems to be a mackerel tabby too with a cream and red (orange) coat.

Well, we dont know Silver's parents. We found her on the streets, so....

Whiskers was also on the streets.

Missy was also on the streets.

And Buddy's mom was Missy, but we dont know his dad.

And here's a better picture of Missy

So they are probably all mixed breed but they do look like purebreed (with slight differences but a purebreed cat isn't always "perfect" either).

You were right, her coat is calico.

awww "Silver" Is sooo cute, She looks alot like my cat Squishy, She looks to be a Domestic short hair :) which is basically a short haired tabby cat :) those are the best cats ever!

and yes I agree that those Calico's and such aren't Pure breeds, but I've never heard of anyone saying that they are, and surely have'nt seen or heard or anyone trying to sell them as such :S

but mixed breeds are the best, mixed breeds or any cat or dog :) they make the best pets!

I don't think mixed breed are best but I do agree that they make good pets (as I've never owned a purebreed pet).

Which isn't a breed

I've heard a lot of people saying that they were. Just as I've read many times on BS that a cat breed was "tabby" or "calico" while a white cat (for ex.) had "no breed".

Calico can't be a breed because is "female only". Male that have a calico or tortoiseshell coat are sterile because they have two "X" chromosomes.
