What virus program do you use? is it good and do you like it?
I use Trend Micro Anti virus. It's a very good program. It will block and stop a program from running if it is a infected file, and alerts you the second a virus is found.

I have norton 360. It works and does a decent job, but I still don't like it. My dad controls the virus protection program, though so I'm stuck with it. Even on my laptop. If I ever did have control, I would have changed to something else in a blink of an eye

I use the antivirus called ThreadFire and PC Tools Firewall, both of them protect my PC very well. No real-time protection, so it won't cost a lot of CPU. My best antivirus for now ^^

I really don't think that you need any Antivirus software if you know what you're doing and you're not browsing websites advertising inappropriate content, because let's face it; over three fourths of acquired viruses come from websites providing content such as pirated software (anything which normally has to be bought in order to use, but has been cracked and put up for free download, be it through torrents or direct links), adult entertainment, etc.
If you don't browse such websites, the chances of successfully acquiring a virus in your system are next to zero, unless you are really unlucky with the advertising scripts that so many websites (AnimationSource included) run, or you open file attachments sent from people you don't know (and in the case you do know them, get in touch with them before downloading the file attached).
But it's always better to be safe than sorry - so don't leave your system without any protection and remember this: If you think you know enough about computers to protect it from danger, you increase the chances that you'll be careless, thus resulting in malware, etc. slipping through your computer's defences by default.
"Do not EVER be careless on the Internet. ALWAYS assume that EVERYONE you do not personally know are out to send you viruses or otherwise dangerous material." <- Golden rule of the Internet, folks. Paranoia is what's going to keep you and your system kickin' online.
That said, I use avast! antivirus (free edition). Planning to change to Avira Soon™.

My mom downloaded a new and free version of SUPERAntiSpyware and I think it does enough of a job to keep the computer running smoothly and safely.
She found out about it through a friend who uses it(knows computers pretty well) and has never had a problem about it.
It scans through ALL documents, files, content, desktop programs, every little thing in your computer and tells you how many viruses or bugs are in each group.
