Hello fellow Balto lovers. Tis be Cupcake speaking. Um, let's see... My topic is about celeberties and their deaths. See, I have been seeing quite a few being posted, and a lot of people still have yet to get over their deaths. No, not just Ferra's and MJ's, but many others... Those 2 just set off my top with all the, 'in memory of' videos going around youtube, veoh, google, yahoo... yeah, ANNOYING.
So, cancer as an example... it's no longer common, and now it's being found abnormaly in children at as young as 4, heck... even babies! Who would bring more money to the cuase, some has-been blow over celeberties, or children? Sweet, dear children? I personally think children...
But, over that position of the topic.. do you think it should just be them, and always them? I don't think so.. it's really sad, to me, that they are the only ones being treated like they were a god or goddess! I mean, children seem to have more power over adults... considering they are the future, and they can change their lives whenever and however they want.
Seriously, should we continue making big deals out of deaths of once famouse people, and on-going famouse people?

Neither, people should go on living their lives normally. It's important to remember that people die everyday of the things that celebrities die of. If a celebrity dies, yes it is sad, but it is a little weird how people proceed to treat the situation as if they knew this person as a family/friend/etc. I say people should give their respects....but also pay respects to the thousands of others who die of the same things by not making too much of a big deal about the celebrity. I don't really have a problem with people making YouTube videos, as that can serve as a form of remembrance. But crowding around the hospital waiting for results is downright rude to both the person in question and to the family. There has been a lot of discussion about famous people dying lately, but that comes as expected, because many have been dying in the past month or so. Hopefully it won't keep up, and discussion will revert to normal. Truthfully I don't know where you're going with the child/adult comparison. Yeah, in some ways, the youth is more important than the older generation, but that claim can be shot down by many good points. Beyond that I don't really know what you're talking about.

Yeah, I guess it can be shot down. Such as points how adults are held higher in the soceity status, make most of the money, most of the choices, have A LOT more responsibility... I guess there has been, whether approving or disapproving. I agree a lot with your point on how people, fans per se, need to stop acting as if they knew that person personally. Not only is it stupid and annoying, but it's being dishonest with yourself! They should stop making such a big deal out of this... The videos, there an over excessive amount! I admire how they want to let others know that they were/are a fan of that person and want to show respect, but if it is a celeberity sometimes it's best to just keep it to yourself!

Well, depends on how you define a 'big deal'. I mean, all the arguments over stuff about the will and funeral etc which are likely to rage on for a long while, they are most certainly not worth a big deal. And it being on the news and on 3/5 TV channels at once, that should tone down.
I mean, obviously someone's going to make a bigger deal of a celebrity death than some poor young kid, because well, hardly anybody would know about the latter.
Really, unless you have some special admiration of a certain celebrity or have met them personally I think it's silly to still be talking about it in a fortnight's time like it's Big Woop Daily's front page story. Still mention it a little bit maybe but not carry it on all over the news. Geeez.
I would be utterly devasted if one of my idols (say, Jeff Hardy for instance, tho he's not mega-famous anybody who's ever watched WWE knows his name) but it's not like I'd ramble on for hours to my friends about the details of his funeral -_-
But GAHHH, gotta hate the media. Haven't they ever heard of 'rest in peace'?
((And, BTW I think this might be better in the 'Other' section, this board is for rants about the site.))

Well, despite the fact I agree celebrities are often way over publicized, especially when they die. People and news (TV and papers) will pretty much always make a huge deal out of it. Micheal Jackson is the latest example, within hours TV was covered in "The king is dead" and the internet was swarming with it. Give it a few days and it dies down again.
Despite all that though, people do tend to gather together to express their sadness over a celeb's death though. A topic on a forum where people can do that is usually pretty normal.

Well, I mean, people die everyday, sometimes a family member, or a normal person, or a rock star. I don't mind if people cry about- but if you are going to whine about weeks after the rock star died, that's rather anoyying. Why should rock stars be mourned by thousands of people and not people who have harder jobs and die from sickness? I think those people are a better idol. This is in the wrong section of the board this if for rants about the site only.

I don't find it a big deal. I don't loose sleep over it. I just accept it and move on with my life. Mainly cause I'm not a "fan" of any celeberties. Still, even if I was, I still would react the same, maby just a little sad. But like I said, I wouldn't make a fuss over it. I don't see the point of getting all upset over someone you never talked to or any personal momments with for that matter. That's just how I see it, but everyone reacts differently to death.

If anything I'm more worried about the fact that in the past 5 days 4 celebrities have died. They seem to be dropping like flies.
Anyway, I think it is a big dal. But ANY death that someone knows about it a big deal to them. If a faily member or friend dies, that's a really bgi deal. But some idolize these celebrities, and some have been around since their childhood. So even though they don't know the personally, it's still like losing a friend.

ilovetinkerbell wrote: I see your point here, but celebs are real people to and they could get upset if they came across this topic. Anyway, this (Cancer, death, ect.) is a very sensitive issue for us and celebs alike and it's a big deal dor everyone. Example, Mical Jackson's death, I don't really care personly, but for his family this is a BIG deal and they are obviously very upset. See what I'm getting at? I understand that it is a big deal to his family, but really... it lasting for months on end? That is just ridiculous! I have experienced death first hand, one of my best friends back in what... 05, 06? I understand what you are getting at, but really. Again. His death was researched, sucking money out of L.A., Nevada for that petty, stupid reason! Look at example, who contributed to Americans more, celebrities (other than inspiring and entertain people to make a living) or soldiers? The family of the soldiers paid for the funerals, not the state! So my point is, it's really pointless to carry on for months in the media world of entertainment about one petty death of one person. Yes, he was very famous, and I have to admit he was talented, but seriously. The first month is okay, the second is for die hard fans and the family, the third is family, and then you should attempt to get over it. And thank you, for resurrecting my topic. I believe this should be the end of it.

ilovetinkerbell wrote: All I was saying was, what if one day a celeb joined this site to find people saying things about her family? Unlikely, maybe, but not impossible. I'm just saying, we don't want to offend people. A site with little kids and little fussy "oh My life sucks" "oh I want to leave the site " fits? I think that's near impossible....anyway, - Even so- What power do they have over people's opinions? (Yes that is what Cupcake's post is, her opinion) What? Sue her Youtube acount? Lol. Offend or not- they know that people will think diffrently than fans.
